My Top 10 Wrestlers Who SHOULD Be in the Hall of Fame! by Anthony S. DiSalvatore
Greetings, and welcome to my Top 10 list of wrestlers who should be in the WWE Hall of Fame, but for some reason, they haven’t been included yet. Like most of you, I was disgusted when I heard the Bella Twins made it into the Hall of Fame. A normal person might have held their tongue on this, but I’m the Overly Opinionated Wrestling Fan, and I’m not normal! So, I thought to myself, why include those useless twins when I can come up with ten better options off the top of my head? A couple of quick notes before I begin: Like last time, these entries are in no particular order. A quick apology to my close personal friend, MJF: You won’t be included anywhere on this list, for obvious reasons. Maybe sometime in the future, who knows? No honorable mentions this time around, let’s get on with it!
10. Big Show
Yes, I know he hasn’t officially retired yet, and other sports require you to be retired for a certain amount of time before they’re eligible for enshrinement. We all know WWE is fast and loose with these rules, so why not allow Big Show in? He’s had a ton of longevity in his career, especially for a guy of his size. I don’t think anybody could have expected for Big Show to still be involved in pro wrestling by now, let alone being semi-active as he is. If you’re a wrestling fan of any description, you know all about Big Show’s infamous numerous heel turns. The fact is, you have to be around for a ton of time for 437 of those things. Not to mention Big Show’s accomplishments in wrestling. He’s been the only guy to hold all three major titles (WWE, WCW, & ECW), and deserves to be in just based on that distinction.
9. William Regal
For those of you who only know Regal as the commissioner for NXT, you’ve missed out on a great career. Not only has he held every major championship in his WWE career (except for one), but he’s also served as an agent, responsible for scouting some of the new talent that the kids today are into. It’s common knowledge that around the time Regal won the 2008 King of the Ring and was the General Manager for RAW, he was being considered for a run with the WWE title! If he had pulled that off, he’d be the first and only English-born WWE Champion in history! He’s also had a hand in several memorable moments, including dressing like Goldust, beating Santino for the Intercontinental title in about 4 seconds in England, and another person on this list pissing in his tea.
How has he NOT been inducted yet? Edge was inducted immediately after he retired and he’s getting back in the ring this weekend against Orton. Undy only shows up once in a blue moon, but we don’t need to talk about all of his contributions here. Even if you’re not a wrestling fan, you know who Undertaker is.
And how can you include Undertaker without Kane being around? We all know the story of Kane and Undertaker, and I know Undertaker was around long before Kane, but I’d argue that one wouldn’t exist without the other at this point. Now the incumbent mayor of Knox County, Tennessee, and a recent 24/7 champion, Kane has gotten very little credit for everything he’s accomplished during his career in my mind. He’s held every major championship, including a myriad of tag team championships with a who’s who of tag team partners. I still believe he should have won the Royal Rumble in 2001. If you haven’t seen it, watch it and come back here to tell me you disagree. I will wait.
6. Owen Hart
I’ll admit that I never really cared for or appreciated Owen Hart until I started comparing him to his brother. His work in the ring was better and he had a ton of charisma. Yet another guy who held every major championship except for one. I really liked his heelwork in the early 90s, especially his tag team stuff with Yokozuna. What a rascal he was during that. Heel Owen is the best.
5. John Cena
Why not include Cena? There have only been two people who have held 16 world titles. Flair is one of them and he’s in there twice! Hating Cena used to be the thing, but people have cooled off on that in recent years. Just like The Miz! He’s all but out of wrestling these days, or at least he will be after The Fiend eats his head this weekend. Cena’s had main event rivalries with every major main event star. He’s the modern-day Hulk Hogan!
4. Chris Jericho
This may be the least likely to happen given recent events, but can anybody honestly say Jericho doesn’t deserve to be in? He’s done everything there is to do and everyone knows who he is, which is why AEW poached him in the first place. What would they have if Jericho weren’t there? A bunch of jackoffs doing flips, and my close personal friend, MJF. Chris has always managed to stay fresh when everything around him seems to be stale. He can get anything over, even if it doesn’t make sense. This entry was brought to you by your friends at the Inner Circle!
3. CM Punk
Yeah, I know, just hear me out for a minute. Even if you don’t like Punk, or you think he’s great (and there are plenty of both), if we’re talking strictly about in-ring accomplishments, which we should be since it is a wrestling hall of fame, Punk started from the bottom and now he’s here! Not RIGHT here, he’s currently on FOX talking about wrestling. And let’s not forget his glorious reign of 434 days as WWE Champion, which was the longest single uninterrupted reign in the last 25 years. Top that! If you’re a fan of wrestlers in film, you guys can catch him in Girl on the Third Floor, now available for streaming on Netflix! I had to fact-check Punk’s title reign with our editor-in-chief, Tim King, who has Punk’s face tattooed on his body. There’s no question in my mind he will enjoy this entry.
2. The Steiner Brothers
I know WWE loves to induct groups! Why not include a tag team? And while we’re including tag teams, why not include THE tag team? Nobody can kick ass like these guys. I don’t know what Rick’s doing these days, but Scotty is still at it according to my dad! Who can forget their classics against the Road Warriors?! It can be done, they just can’t allow Scott anywhere near a microphone. He’s had some heart issues lately, so he may not be in the game much longer. The crowd would love it! But they put those useless twins in there. I don’t get it.
1. The Rock
I had to triple check to make sure this was true! How can put a man’s entire extended family in and not include the man himself? And not just any man, but the biggest Hollywood star in the last couple of decades, who also happens to be a wrestler that they created?! He’s in every movie ever. He’s beaten everyone from his generation. AND he’s won nine world titles. And don’t get me started on his ridiculous promos. Ridiculous in the best of ways, I promise. This doesn’t add up! WWE loves to include people from Hollywood in their business, and my four-year-old niece knows who The Rock is. He was the inspiration for this list, to begin with, and he more than deserves to be included.
Hopefully, I’ve been able to convince some of you why these people belong in the Hall of Fame. Are there any others I’ve left off? Maybe you guys should leave some comments! Would you leave any of these guys out? If you liked this list, come back later tonight for my review of AEW Dynamite!
