#1 Patriots Win 12 games
Yes, you read that correctly. Brady is gone, Gronk came out of retirement and he’s gone, and this team aged down the stretch. Let’s not forget that the receivers were the worst in the NFL. But this team still has the real GOAT in Coach Bill Belichick (who was winning Super Bowls before he had Tom Brady). The talk the entire offseason was that they believed in Jarrett Stidham and they backed that up in the draft by not selecting a QB.
#2 Steelers sweep the Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens ran through the entire NFL during the regular season, including division rival the Pittsburgh Steelers twice. However, the Steelers had Mason Rudolph and Duck Hodges at QB. It will be much different this season with Big Ben back and the Steelers will sweep the Ravens. In addition to Big Ben, their defense was Iron curtained last year and I expect them to be even better this year.
#3 Cam Newton lead Jacksonville to the Playoffs
Cam Newton remains unsigned, a former league MVP still doesn’t have a job which is mind-boggling. But no worries, after early-season struggles with Gardner Minshew, Coach Doug Marrone will have no choice but to sign Cam Newton. Cam will then do his best Superman impression and lead the Jaguars to the playoffs.
#4 Marcus Mariota unseats Derek Carr
The Las Vegas Raiders have given Derek Carr more than enough time to prove he can be the guy. He just doesn’t seem to be a guy that elevates the players around him. The Raiders coveted Mariota in Free Agency and back loaded his contract with incentives that will pay him up to 37.5M if he takes over and plays well. Anyone in football knows you pay your back-up to be a back-up and 37.5M is a clear message to Derek Carr he is on borrowed time.
#5 Jacoby Brissett beats out Phillip Rivers
The Colts have had a few very interesting offseasons over the past few years. They lost star QB Andrew Luck to retirement. Josh McDaniels played them hard after the Super Bowl in 2018 and yet here the Colts are competing again. The Colts extended Jacoby Brissett last year on impulse given Luck’s sudden retirement from the game and Brissett didn’t play to expectations. The Colts went out and signed Phillip Rivers in the offseason to a 25 million dollar deal. Ironically, Rivers threw almost as many Ints (20) as he did TDs (23) last season and because of that, I predict that a healthy Jacoby Brissett will remain the starter over Rivers.
What do you think about my 2020 AFC bold predictions? Do you believe that any of them can happen?
