Just six weeks after announcing the extension of Kyle Shanahan, the 49ers have extended General Manager John Lynch’s contract through 2024.
Lynch was hired to clean up the 49ers after their two year run with Jim Tomsula and Chip Kelly as the Head Coaches. The 49ers were the worst team in the league, in Lynch’s first move he hired offensive guru Kyle Shanahan and after a pair of rocky seasons the 49ers finally found some footing when trading for quarterback “Pornstar”Jimmy G and turning San Francisco back into a place free agents wanted to play.
This past offseason saw a defensive overhaul that saw the 49ers add DE Dee Ford and LB Kwon Alexander. The 49ers defense and run game would propel this team to a 13-3 season, home field advantage in the playoffs, and a Super Bowl appearance. The 49ers would ultimately lose the game but the growth the organization has shown since turning things over to Lynch has 49ers ownership brass onboard for the long run.
This is very good news for 49ers fans, after years of inconsistency post Jim Harbaugh era they are finally out of the basement of the NFL.
