Hey, it’s Josh from Regularly Scheduled Hostilities back again! I’m not much for introductions so let’s jump right our 5 Things we Learned from Smackdown 4/10/20!
At Wrestlemania this past week we saw Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn and Smackdown Tag Team Champions The Miz and John Morrison retain their championships. We also saw new Women’s Tag Team Champions crowned in Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross, a new 24/7 Champion in Rob Gronkowski, and FINALLY, for the first time in his career (a year overdue IMO) The Monster Among Men won his first Universal Championship. What’s next for each of these champions? Will the Kabuki Warriors regain the Women’s Championships? Who is Strowman’s first challenger? Enough questions it’s time to get some answers with what we learned tonight on Smackdown.
5.) Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross are still your tag team champions and have their next challengers
Alexa Bliss (who is my number one crush on this earth and ONE DAY WILL BE MY WIFE) and Nikki Cross retained their WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships tonight on Smackdown. In my article from this past Saturday (10 Things You Learned From Wrestlemania Day 1) I wrote that with the Kabuki Warriors finally dropping the belts after rarely defending them for multiple months that I hoped that the belts would be taken more seriously and that Bliss and Cross were the perfect team to do that.
They have been strong the last few months as a team and with neither Nikki or Alexa busy with feuds that have nothing to do with the Women’s Championships (unlike Asuka who had a lengthy feud with Becky and was involved in the Women’s Elimination Chamber while the belts just sat there not getting defended).
My wife and her bestie retaining the belts keep me hopeful that the titles are finally going to be taken seriously. In a backstage segment tonight it looks as if they will be defending their titles against Dana Brooke and Carmella ( apparently they are a team now) at some point here in the near future (it wasn’t announced when just that it will happen) Time will obviously tell if WWE gets behind the Women’s Tag Team Division but I have faith that with Bliss and Cross leading the division they can get the Women’s Tag Team Championships to a significant place within the WWE.
4.) It’s time for the WWE to start Walking With Elias
This isn’t necessarily something we learned tonight (should have learned this a long time ago) Tonight all he did was sing one of his songs that he does most weeks but they are always good and entertaining. Coming off his win at Wrestlemania over the weekend it’s about time WWE takes this guy seriously.
With Smackdown lacking star power this is the perfect spot for Elias. When is the last time he has been involved in a meaningful feud and storyline? This guy is as talented as they come! The guy has an album that made it all the way up to NUMBER 4 on iTunes!! How impressive is that? It’s about time WWE put Elias in a big feud and gives him a legit push. He has the look, charisma, and has very solid in-ring work.
I have said for over TWO years that Elias has star written all over him and WWE has just been wasting it! I have no idea what WWE is waiting for but it’s about damn time he gets his chance to shine!!
He retweeted me last night and I cannot wait until he finally agrees to be on Regularly Scheduled Hostilities(a guy can dream right?) He would take us to the next level just as he would with Smackdown. WWE does stand for Walk With Elias after all. Let the guy show you why.
3.) The Miz and John Morrison vs New Day vs Uso’s feud seems to be far from over and we have an NXT team debut on the blue brand!
Since The Miz and John Morrison have teamed back up they have been one of the best things on Smackdown. Still, champions after Morrison won the ladder match this past Saturday at Wrestlemania the question everyone is asking is who is there next challengers? While they were in the middle of brilliantly rapping there new hit smash “Miz and Morrison Hey Hey Ho Ho” we found out that answer. It looks like The New Day and Uso’s will continue to be the main challengers for Miz and Morrison for the time being. Big E said that since one member of each team competed at Wrestlemania for the titles that it was only fair that the other team members get a chance as well. From there, Kofi announced that next week it will be The Miz vs Kofi Kingston vs Jey Uso for the Smackdown Tag Team Championships.
A little later in the night, we saw the Smackdown debut of The Forgotten Sons. Jaxson Ryker, Wesley Blake, and Steve Cutler for people who don’t know are the men who make up this impressive team coming from NXT. Cutler and Blake defeated The Lucha House Party with ease in their debut match on the blue brand. I am hopeful yet hesitant about the prospects of this team. It has nothing to do with the talent because this team has what it takes to do huge things.
But with the misuse of NXT call up tag teams in the past (The Vaudevillians, Sanity, The Ascension, AOP, The Viking Raiders, etc) it’s hard to trust WWE not to do it again. Let’s hope the WWE has learned from there past mistakes and gives these guys a chance to show what they can do!
2.) Look’s like we are officially on the road to a Sasha vs Bayley feud!
Like I had stated Sunday night after the Fatal 5 Way Smackdown Women’s Championship Match it appears like the WWE is going to start to hint at a Bayley vs Sasha Banks feud. Tonight on Smackdown all but confirms that. Bayley came out to cut a promo about how no one can beat her blah blah blah. Then out comes Tamina who states Bayley didn’t beat her and it took all five women to eliminate her which is true.
So Bayley tells Tamina that if she beats Sasha next week she will win an opportunity to challenge her for the championship. Sasha looked less than pleased with this and Tamina told her that her bestie just screwed her. Well, this is pretty obvious now right? It’s only a matter of time before Sasha gets sick of Bayley and her putting her in these kinds of positions. This is the beginning of what I expect to be a long feud between the two and the only question is will Bayley have the belt or will Sasha cost her the belt at some point? We might find out soon if Tamina is able to defeat The Boss next week on Smackdown. I’m interested to see what happens next between these two.
1.) Braun Strowman is ready to LET HIM IN!!!!
Fresh off winning his first WWE Universal Championship it looks like we got our answer of who will be Braun Strowman’s first opponent and it’s none other than The Fiend Bray Wyatt. After defeating Shinsuke Nakamura who had challenged Braun at the beginning of the show Bray appeared via Firefly Funhouse and told Braun he has taught him many things and he will now teach him about sharing as he has something that Bray wants back referring to the Universal Championship.
Bray references bringing Braun into the WWE out of the swamp and then Braun turning his back on him (Braun was the black sheep in the Wyatt Family). The history between these two men makes this feud easy to get excited for.
As Bray waves goodbye Strowman interrupts saying he is ready to LET HIM IN! The two men have a staredown as the show ends. I’m interested to see how this feud goes with regards to the belt since Braun was just a “fill in” with Roman Reigns not competing at Wrestlemania.
Will Braun have a lengthy title reign? Or will The Fiend get back what many people think he should have never lost? I believe The Fiend doesn’t need the belt to be significant but with WWE also trying to sell the custom Fiend replica belt on WWE Shop (if anyone wants to get me one they are 429 bucks). I find it is smart in a business sense for the belt to be showcased on tv. But I may just be thinking too much. I expect that these two men to have a long feud (especially since no one knows when Roman Reigns can even return) with an easy story to sell and I hope it goes a while with the ending at Summerslam or later.
Extra Point: Next weeks Smackdown is loaded
We also learned Money in the Bank qualifying matches will begin taking place next week. With Daniel Bryan vs Cesaro and Naomi vs Dana Brooke. Miz vs Kofi vs Jey Uso was announced for the Smackdown Tag Team Championships! Tamina vs Sasha Banks where if Tamina wins she gets a WWE Smackdown Women’s Title opportunity against Bayley. And then it was also announced that next week Sonya Deville will attempt to clear the air with Mandy Rose. That’s a loaded line up for next week’s Smackdown that I am looking forward to!!
