Well well well. Another loaded episode of Smackdown in the books. We have Sasha Banks vs Lacey Evans in a Women’s Money in the Bank Qualifying match, King Corbin vs Drew Gulak in a Men’s Money in the Bank Qualifying Match, and Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross defending there WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship’s against the newly formed Carmella & Dana Brooke.
Also, we celebrate one the best ever Triple H who is celebrating 25 years with WWE. I want to apologize that I had forgotten to insert that in the closing or extra points portion of my article after last week’s Smackdown. Lesson learned.
Also on the show what’s next for Bray and Braun leading into their match at Money in the Bank, The same can be asked about Bayley and Tamina, and who is this mystery hacker? Do we get any more hints? What’s the next step in Dolph/Sonya vs Otis/Mandy? Do none of these questions get answered? Well, that’s enough questions.
Let’s get some answers and find out what we learned tonight on WWE Smackdown.
5.) The Forgotten Sons are the new blood the Smackdown Tag Team Division needs
I can’t say I was very familiar with The Forgotten Sons but man after tonight I’m sold. The promo they cut. The “Miz, you played a marine on TV but you’re looking at a real marine” line. Then they lay out everyone (The New Day and Lucha House Party) except the Miz and Morrison who escaped.
These guys are exactly what this tag division needs. I’ve said for weeks how Smackdown’s tag division needed some new teams added because every team has feuded with the other multiple times over. Insert the Forgotten Sons. We all know how WWE books NXT called up talent but so far so good with the Forgotten Sons. I hope this continues as we need a legit badass tag team on Smackdown. I learned tonight don’t sleep on The Forgotten Sons. Smackdown better take notice.
4.) The Miz and John Morrison split is coming soon
The Miz and John Morrison lost to the LUCHA HOUSE PARTY! Yeah, you read that right. WTF. No disrespect to The Lucha House Party but they aren’t at the level of a Miz or John Morrison. I’m guessing that Morrison is going to eventually get sick of The Miz losing all of the time. He lost there WWE Smackdown Tag Team Championships last week and he took the pin in defeat tonight as well. John Morrison deserves a good singles run and he is more than capable of doing well on his own. If I had to guess we are going to get a few more weeks with tension building up until Morrison turns on Miz. At least we will only have to hear the terrible “Miz and Morrison Hey Hey Ho Ho” chant so many more times. I still can’t believe WWE put The Lucha House Party over them. I get it storyline-wise but damn. Anyways, we learned to appreciate the next few times you see The Miz and John Morrison team up because the end is near.
3.) Sasha Banks vs Bayley is coming and it should be spectacular
After “accidentally” costing her “best friend” Sasha Banks her Money in the Bank qualifying match against Lacey Evans it looks like it’s not a matter of if but of when this feud starts. Most of us have seen this coming for weeks now. Dating back to Wrestlemania 36. Lacey Evans and Sasha had a very good match and I’m happy to see Lacey doing much better since her move to Smackdown after being rushed onto RAW and into a feud with Becky Lynch last year.
But, I see for the foreseeable future that the WWE Smackdown Women’s Championship feud will be between Sasha Banks and Bayley. These two women have a very storied past and it will be one of the best feuds going on in WWE (assuming WWE doesn’t screw up the booking). I’m hoping they drag this out and these two end up not having a one on one match until Summerslam. But you know how WWE likes to rush everything and not let stories play out naturally. Enough negativity (see Ben I don’t agree with EVERYTHING WWE DOES!) I’m looking forward to this feud between these two women. I have no idea who the Money in the Bank favorite is for the women’s match but I’m hoping that the winner is on the RAW brand. Time will tell.
2.) The Women’s Division deserves so much better!!!!!
My wife Alexa Bliss and her BFF Nikki Cross defeated Carmella and Dana Brooke to retain there WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship’s. That’s not surprising. What’s odd to me is WWE just throwing teams together and putting them right into the title picture. Nothing against Carmella and Dana Brooke but since when were they even a team?
With Kai and Gonzalez on NXT, you could use to feud with Bliss and Cross since they are an actual team or The Iconics (remember them?). I just don’t understand what WWE is doing with the Women’s Tag Division and I see why people consider it such a joke. You can put my baby boo Alexa on tv each week and ill tune in no matter what she does. But WWE GET IT TOGETHER!
These titles have been booked like absolute shit since they debuted and it’s way past due for it to be fixed. Makes zero sense to me with a roster full of talented women you can’t do better than this. You’re like the Philadelphia Eagles draft EMBARRASSING!
King Corbin defeated Drew Gulak to qualify for the Men’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match. He was assisted when Nakamura and Cesaro attacked Daniel Bryan who was ringside. Gulak got distracted allowing Corbin to win with End of Day’s. We learned Corbin is now in Money in the Bank and the Drew Gulak/Daniel Bryan vs Nakamura/Cesaro/Zayn feud is far from over.
Sheamus squashed another guy. They showed another Jeff Hardy vignette after the match. Sheamus came back down to ringside and threw Michael Cole’s headset off his head. Kind of an odd way to start a feud. Apparently these two guys are going to feud. I mean I guess that’s what this is leading to. Guess we will find out someday.
Next week on Smackdown it will be Dolph Ziggler vs Otis and Mandy Rose and Carmella in Money in the Bank Qualifying Matches.
1.) Triple H is one of the most under-appreciated talents in WWE history!
Congratulations to Triple H on his 25 years in WWE. As you heard (if you haven’t you need to check it out!) on my and Ben Axe/Chuck Winchester’s podcast Regularly Scheduled Hostilities we think that Triple H is one of the best and under-appreciated talents in WWE history. From the drive-thru wedding between Triple H and Stephanie McMahon to his memorable Wrestlemania entrances.
Don’t forget his countless classic feuds with Mick Foley, Shawn Michaels, Chris Jericho, The Undertaker, The Rock, Stone Cold, John Cena, and the list goes on and on. You saw in the segment tonight the guy is entertaining as hell even if there is no crowd. I enjoyed the humor and the additions of Shawn Michaels, Stephanie McMahon, Ric Flair, and The Great (as Donald Trump would say) VINCENT KENNEDY MCMAHON.
I think we need more Vince McMahon on-screen. Vince standing out there roasting Hunter was HILARIOUS! This was a fun segment and I on behalf of me and my buddy Ben Axe/Chuck Winchester and the WWE Universe wants to say thank you Triple H for all you’ve done a will continue to do. You also run the most entertaining and best wrestling show (in my opinion at least) on TV in NXT. It was an honor watching people play The Game over the years and I can’t wait to see what you do next. I want to see you in a few more matches before you go into full creative mode. But I digress. Thanks again and happy 25 years!
Thank you guys for checking out my article and as always I want to thank everyone at AEE for the opportunity. Make sure to check out Ben Axe/Chuck Winchester and I in our latest episode of Regularly Scheduled Hostilities where we talk about the past week’s action, what we think about the new Money in the Bank concept, and in honor of Triple H’s 25 years tell you some of our favorite moments from The Game. You don’t want to miss it!!
