We have sad news today as we have learned that Annie Glenn, the wife of famed astronaut and U.S. Senator John Glenn has passed away. It is being reported that Glenn passed away Tuesday, May 19th due to COVID-19.
Glenn was 100 and a well-known advocate for communications disorders. Glenn had complications from COVID-19, while at a nursing home near St. Paul, Minnesota. Spokesman Hank Wilson for the Glenn College of Affairs at the Ohio State University said in a statement.
Her husband John Glenn passed away back in 2016. Annie and John had been married for 73 years at that time. She had moved out of her Columbus, Ohio apartment that both she and John lived and went on to live with her daughter Lyn according to Wilson.
Annie Glen first became well-known because she was the wife of John Glenn. John was the first American to orbit the Earth. However, she soon earned fame on her own. In 1998 Defense Secretary William Cohen honored Annie Glenn with the Department of Defense Medal for Outstanding Public Service. She was called a hero,
In 2009 Glenn received an honorary doctorate of public service from Ohio State. Where she served as an adjunct professor of speech pathology in the Department of Speech and Hearing Science. The department bestows an Annie Glenn Leadership Award annually.
