Birmingham City have increased their chanced of gain promotion to the Premier League by signing veteran centre midfielder Mikel San Jose. San Jose played over 400 times for Athletic Bilbao over an 11 year period with the club.
The midfielder can also play as a centre back and has recieved 7 caps for the Spanish international side. Having joined Liverpool as an 18 year old in 2007, San Jose never recieved a call up to the first team and returned to Spain with his youth club Bilbao.
San Jose will join on a free transfer after leaving Bilbao at the end of last season. He was limited to only 9 appearances in the league last season playing as a make shift centre back.
The 31 year old will sign a two year contract with the Blues and is hoping to guide them back to the top flight of English football. Birmingham have 4 points from their opening 2 games in the Championship this season after drawing 0-0 with Swansea and beating last years play off finalists Brentford on the opening day 1-0.
