Sadly today we have learned that that the body of Naya Rivera has been found in a lake in California. Rivera is known for her role on the hit TV series Glee. Rivera was just 33 years old.
Before the press conference on Monday afternoon TMZ broke the news.
Rivera had gone missing in Lake Piru Wednesday, July 8th, while she was boating with her son. The Lake is located in Ventura County’s Los Padres National Forest. It had been reported that the actress had rented the boat with her son, Josey Hollis Dorsey, around the time of 1 p.m. that afternoon. Close to three hours later, another boater noticed Josey was sleeping alone on the pontoon of the boat. Officials said Josey was unharmed and had a life vest on, while an adult life vest had been found on the boat.
Ventura County Sherrif’s Office said, “There’s no evidence of foul play at this point” and, “This might be a case of drowning.” The search and rescue operation was launched and had continued throughout the week.
Rivera was born in Santa Clarita, California on January 12th, 1987, just outside of LA, and she began her acting career as a child. Rivera got her first job at the young age of four on Eddie Murphy’s short-lived television series, The Royal Family. She would guest-star on famous sitcoms such as Family Matters, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Baywatch, and Smart Guy.
Rivera landed recurring roles on The Bernie Mac Show and made her film debut in Dana Carvey’s 2002 comedy, The Master of Disguise. When she reached her twenties, Naya had appeared on shows like 8 Simple Rules and CSI: Miami all while working different jobs. 2009 would be her big break portraying cheerleader Santana Lopez on Glee.
Her character on the show quickly became an instant fan-favorite. As a result, Rivera was added to the main cast of Glee in Season Two of the series. Her Role as Lopez attracted such an online presence among her fans.
Rivera would remain a strong character that was crucial to the success of Glee, until the sixth season in 2015. Naya would go on to be involved with many other projects. In 2013, she released her debut music single, titled “Sorry”, featuring then-boyfriend Big Sean. Other film credits included the horror film At the Devil’s Door, in 2015, she would have a role on the Lifetime series, Devious Maids. Recently Rivera starred in the 2017 film Mad Families, and also was cast on the YouTube Premium Show Step Up.
Naya saved her son Josey.
Ventura County Sherriff Bill Ayub said at a news conference, “She must have mustered enough energy to get her son back on the boat, But not enough to save herself.” In doing that Rivera saved her son Josey.
