Finally, The British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith is being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. This is long overdue and well deserved as the Bulldog made his mark in professional wrestling during the 1980s, 90s, and early 2000s.
The Bulldog won professional championships in three different decades while entertaining fans all over the world. The Bulldog and his brother in law Bret Hart had the PWI match of the year in 1992 when the Bulldog defeated Hart in one of the greatest matches of all time in the main event at Summerslam 1992. The match took place in front of Bulldog’s home crowd at Webley Stadium in London.
The Bulldog won every title in the WWE except for the World title where he came close on several occasions. He won the Intercontinental, Tag Team, and Hardcore titles. To me, the title the Bulldog is most synonymous with is the European title. He won the tournament defeating his brother in law and tag team partner Owen Hart to win the title. He would go on to carry it for 206 days.
If you were a 90’s child the Bulldog was a big part of your wrestling fandom during childhood. He is one of a few names that should have been inducted into the Hall long ago.
Now he will get his long overdue enshrinement Wrestlemania weekend.
Congrats to the Smith family.
