The phenomenal hit movie Cape Fear (1991) starring Robert DeNiro has recently been released to Netflix and it is definitely a movie I plan to rewatch.
Cape Fear is directed by Martin Scorsese. Scorsese’s version is a remake of the original 1962 film. Robert De Niro plays a convicted rapist who is paroled and feels that he was cheated during his trial. He seeks revenge against his attorney who is played by Nick Nolte and his family. Nick Nolte’s wife is played by Jessica Lange and their teenage daughter is played by Juliette Lewis. His family and anyone else he associates with are stalked and terrorized throughout the movie.
The film also stars Illeana Douglas, Robert Mitchum, and Gregory Peck who also played the attorney in the original Cape Fear.
Robert De Niro is sensational in his role as a psychopathic madman and the movie itself is pretty terrifying, especially the last half.
The violence in this movie is pretty graphic but brief. There are depictions of violence and rape throughout, but it isn’t shown. Overall this movie tends to focus on the characters being terrorized and the aftermath of the increasingly horrific events.
I highly recommend you check this one out if you haven’t seen it yet or if it’s been years. Cape Fear is currently available on Netflix.
