I’ve been watching a show on DC Universe the last 2 months that has been pleasantly surprising. This show is Stargirl and it takes place on Earth 2 after the events of Crisis in its own time.
Courtney Whitmore is a High School teenager who moves from California to Blue Valley, Nebraska with her mom, Stepdad Pat, and Pat’s son Mike. Her mom Barbara is from Nebraska but moved away when she got older and took a job to come back with Pat’s blessing. While in the basement, Courtney finds the staff of Starman, who Pat was a sidekick to, and she winds up learning that Starman was her father and Pat was S.T.R.I.P.E. Courtney only saw her dad once a year until he disappeared which was when the Injustice Society of America Destroyed the Justice Society and killed him.
Finding all of this out, Courtney starts using the staff training as Stargirl without Pat’s blessing and has the urge to take revenge on the society that took her father away. You also learn that the ISA is in Blue Valley looking to do something evil. The reason Pat is against any of this is that he witnessed what happened to the JSA first hand and doesn’t want it to happen again. But he winds up coming around in time. Stargirl recruits other kids from school to become Wildcat, Hourman, and Doctor Midnite and with Stripe training them they reform the JSA to go up against Brainwave, Gambler, Dragon King, Sports Master, Solomon Grundy, and Icicle.
This show comes on every Monday on DC Universe and every Tuesday Night on CW Network. The storytelling and pace of the show are fantastic. You actually get to know the characters slowly and the way they tell a story on the show is just right. I recommend people watch this show and with it being attached to the CW brand, I would hope in time they crossover with a few of the other shows there. Another reason to watch is Luke Wilson and Amy Smart. They give the show proven faces for people to click with.
