We are back with another week of my NFL picks!!! After an okay 10-6 Week 1 start I look to improve on that this week! As always DeBord Room is the place to come for all your NFL predictions and All Everything Entertainment is the place to come for all the latest NFL news! Tons of great games this week so let’s get to picking!!! As always make sure to tune into DeBord Room each Tuesday night at 8est time where I will break down the action from the past week of the NFL and all breaking news in the world of the NFL, MLB, College Football, and NBA.
Cincinnati (0-1) at Cleveland (0-1), 8:20 p.m.
After my embarrassing pick of Cleveland to defeat the Ravens last week (they lost 38-6) I can’t lie it’s going to be hard for the Browns to earn my confidence back. With all the talent they have on their roster they looked outmatched and flat out embarrassing last week. The Bengals didn’t win but first overall pick Joe Burrow had a solid debut game (23/36 193 yards, Int, Rush TD) and a great drive at the end of the game that would have got the Bengals a win (if it wasn’t for an AJ Green OPI) or at least a chance to take the game to overtime (if it wasn’t for Randy Bullick blowing his leg out and missing a chip shot field goal). I think this game is going to be very close between two bitter rivals. I live in Ohio so I have to deal with these two idiot fanbases each day so it pains me to have to pick either of them. But, Joe Mixon (160 total yards, 2TD) scores a late TD in the 4th and puts this one to bed as Joe Burrow wins his first NFL game and Baker Mayfield gets one step closer to the bench.
Josh’s Pick: Bengals 27-20
New York Giants (0-1) at Chicago (1-0), 1 p.m.
Two young QB’s go head to head in this week 2 matchup. One coming off of a loss on Monday Night Football to the Steelers and one coming off an impressive comeback last week against division rival Detroit. I’m going to roll with Mitch in this one!!! I think he’s going to have a great game against this Giants defense. I also think the Bears defense has a strong game against this weak Giants offensive line and they limit Saquon Barkley. I think the Bears cruise in this game. David Montgomery (120 total yards, TD) and Allen Robinson (100 plus yards receiving, TD) have big games.
Josh’s Pick: Bears 24-13
Atlanta (0-1) at Dallas (0-1), 1 p.m.
Well, week 1 didn’t go well for either of these two teams. Now the question is: Which team is ready to rebound? Atlanta got destroyed by an explosive Seattle offense and Dallas lost ” controversially” to the Rams on Sunday Night Football. Well, for me it comes down to defense in this game which is unfortunate because neither team played much of it week 1. I will give the slight edge to Dallas here. Aldon Smith showed signs of his old self (11 tackles, 6 solo, Sack, TFL) and the depth on that defensive line is going to be too much for Atlanta to match. Don’t get me wrong I think this game is going to be a shootout. Matt Ryan (340 yards passing 3 TD) and Julio Jones (6 catches 108 yards, TD) will keep this game close but Dak Prescott (258 yards, 3 TD) and Ezikiel Elliots (150 total yards, 2 TD) will be too much for the Falcons. A late strip-sack by DeMarcus Lawrence closed this game out late in the fourth for the Cowboys.
Josh’s Pick: Cowboys 38- 34
Detroit (0-1) at Green Bay (1-0), 1 p.m.
This was an easy pick, probably the easiest one of the week. Aaron Rodgers was amazing last week (364 yards and 4 TD) and I expect him to have a great game this week as well. Detroit coming off that heartbreaking loss last week at home against Chicago I feel are coming in down and out. This team just feels like something always gets in the way and unfortunately for head coach Matt Patricia I feel like it’s him. I have no idea how a defensive-minded head coach’s defense has gotten worse each year. Anyway, Aaron Rodgers (300 plus yards passing, 3 TD) and Aaron Jones (138 yards rushing, TD) lead the Packers to a dominating win.
Josh’s Pick: Packers 35-13
Minnesota (0-1) at Indianapolis (0-1), 1 p.m.
Well, Week 1 wasn’t pleasant to either one of these teams. Both teams I’m sure are eager to move on from it and get onto the right page. The problem is there can only be one winner (I mean unless there’s a tie I guess) and for some reason, I just feel like Minnesota wins this one. The Colts lost to the awful, sorry, tanking for Trevor Jacksonville Jaguars. I mean WTF! How on gods green earth does that even happen? They literally traded there the whole team away, kept their lame-duck head coach, and have a guy who I feel bad for because he’s set up to fail no matter how well he plays. Marlon Mack lost for the year (Torn Achillies) hurts Indy as Jonathon Taylor is still getting his feet wet in the NFL and I think a strong game from Minnesota running back Dalvin Cook (148 yards rushing 2 TD) carries the Vikings to their first victory of the new season.
Josh’s Pick: Minnesota 20-13
Buffalo (1-0) at Miami (0-1), 1 p.m.
After a terrible performance for Ryan Shitzpatrick last week against New England (3 INT) he goes up against another top NFL defense this week in the Buffalo Bills. I hate to break it to him he’s gonna have another bad game this week. I expect Shitzpatrick to throw a couple more interceptions and probably be benched after halftime for Tua. TUA SHOULD HAVE BEEN STARTING SINCE DAY 1. But, anyway. Josh Allen (248 total yards, 3 Total TD) will control this game as the turnovers will be too much for Miami to overcome. Hopefully, they are smart enough to start Tua sooner rather than later. Bills roll to 2-0.
Josh’s Pick: Bills win 28-10
San Francisco (0-1) at New York Jets (0-1), 1 p.m.
Got bad news and good news for you San Fransico. Bad news is you lost to division rival Arizona last week, lost star TE George Kittle to an injury, and started your season 0-1. The good news: YOUR PLAYING THE NEW YORK JETS!!!! The Jets are like playing a JV high school football team. Unless Jimmy G throws 5 interceptions I don’t see the Jets getting close to a victory here. The Jets best weapon RB Le’Veon Bell is now out for a couple of weeks with a hamstring injury just limits this already limited Jets offense. Sam Darnold will get knocked around by Nick Bosa (2 sacks) and the 49ers defense will rebound in a big way.
Josh’s Pick: 49ers 27-9
Los Angeles Rams (1-0) at Philadelphia (0-1), 1 p.m.
I think the Eagles are cursed with the injury bug. They lost DE Brandon Graham and Vinny Curry, played last week without young star running back Miles Sanders, and the offensive line shows no interest in keeping QB Carson Wentz upright. Those are all bad signs when you have the best defensive lineman in the NFL Aaron Donald coming to town. After an impressive showing last Sunday night against the Cowboys I actually like the Rams to go into Philadelphia and take this one from the Eagles. I think the running back by committee the Rams are using will have another good game (100 plus yards rushing) and Jared Goff will play a solid game (240 yards 2 TD). Aaron Donald will have multiple sacks (2 at least) and a forced fumble as poor Carson Wentz will be lucky to be able to make it out of this game being able to walk. I hope for his sake his line blocks better for him this week than they did last week.
Josh’s Pick: Rams 31-20
Denver (0-1) at Pittsburgh (1-0), 1 p.m.
It’s week 2 and Big Ben is still healthy. That has to be a new record or something, I kid I kid (kinda). Seriously though, the Steelers whole season depends on Ben’s health. If he stays healthy they are are a legit contender in the AFC and if he gets hurt there probably a 7-9 team at best. Lucky for them Denver’s best player and pass rusher LB Von Miller is out for the year and other LB Bradley Chubb is also banged up. Pittsburgh’s offensive line played well against the Giants on Monday and I expect them to not struggle with this undermanned Denver defense. Ben has a good game (329 yards 3 TD) and JuJu gets his first huge game of the year (138 yards 2 TD) as Pittsburgh takes care of business at home.
Josh’s Pick: Steelers 30-16
Carolina (0-1) at Tampa Bay (0-1), 1 p.m.
You have all seen the Tom Brady meme’s right? Well, I have mostly because I’ve been posting them lol. The thing about Brady is he always bounces back and I don’t expect that to be any different this week. I am a die-hard Patriots fan and Tom Brady will forever be my favorite player of all time as well as the GOAT! This is the first time he’s been in this situation though. New team, no preseason, not much of a training camp, and then open the season against an NFC powerhouse. That’s a lot for even the GOAT to handle. Let’s be realistic all Tampa Bay is going to need is 4 or 5 games to get this on track unless Brady really is washed up and done. I will have to see that to believe it. I think Brady has a bounce-back game (324 yards 3 TD), Chris Godwin and Mike Evans both catch a TD and despite Christian McCaffrey going off for 159 total yards and 2 touchdowns, it won’t be enough. Carolina is a few years away from contending and that’ll show a lot this week.
Josh’s Pick: Tampa Bay 34-17
Jacksonville (0-1) at Tennessee (1-0), 1 p.m.
I don’t know why but these AFC South games are always so hard to pick. An example being last week, how many of you had Jacksonville beating the Colts? Yeah, me either. This one I think is a little more cut and dry. Derrick Henry should run wild (140 yards 2 TD) and Ryan Tannehill manages the game (220 yards 0 turnovers) will lead the Titans to a victory here. Jacksonville will put up an early fight as QB Gardner Minshew (302 yards TD, INT) will play his ass off but it will be all for nothing. Since Jacksonville is in Tank for Trevor mode I hope another team grabs Minshew after the season so he doesn’t just rot in Jacksonville his whole career. Titans go to 2-0.
Josh’s Pick: Titans 27-14
Washington (1-0) at Arizona (1-0), 4:05 p.m.
Washington defeated the Eagles week 1 and shocked everyone. Well, they won’t have the same luck this week against the Arizona Cardinals. Did you all see how unstoppable Kyler Murray/DeAndre Hopkins were against the 49ers (who have a very good defense) last week? I don’t expect that to stop this week as Murray will throw for 300 plus yards and 3 touchdowns as Hopkins tops 100 yards again and catches another touchdown. Dwayne Haskins will play okay but the Washington Football Team doesn’t have the offense to keep up with Arizona. Arizona has this game wrapped up by the end of the 3rd quarter.
Josh’s Pick- Arizona 31-17
Baltimore (1-0) at Houston (0-1), 4:25 p.m.
The Baltimore Ravens looked like a well-oiled machine in their week 1 victory over the Cleveland Browns. The Houston Texans on the other hand got smacked around by the Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs last Thursday Night. Unfortunately for Houston, it’s going to happen to them against this week. Lamar Jackson (350 total yards, 3 TD) and new toy JK Dobbins (100 total yards, TD) will put it to the Texans defense in this one. Deshaun Watson will do all he can but in the end, it won’t even be close to being enough in this one. Sorry, Houston you have a problem and it’s that your now 0-2. Does Bill O’ Brien last this whole season?
Josh’s Pick: Baltimore 35-17
Kansas City (1-0) at Los Angeles Chargers (1-0), 4:25 p.m.
After watching Kansas City destroy Houston last week and the Chargers barely (and I mean barely) sneak out a win against the Bengals you would think I’d pick Kansas City to roll in this right? Well, your half right. I expect Kansas City to win but I expect it to be closer than most people will think. The Chargers have a very good defense (despite the injuries) especially the front 7. This is also a division game and these games are typically close and at times end in upsets. This won’t be an upset but it will be close. I think the Chargers defense holds Clyde Edwards-Helaire in check (under 70 total yards) but in the end, Patrick Mahomes (278 yards 3 TD) will be too much for them as the Chiefs will pull away midway through the 4th quarter. The champs go on to 2-0.
Josh’s Pick: Kansas City 27-17
New England (1-0) at Seattle (1-0), 8:20 p.m.
As a Patriots fan, this game scares the hell out of me. I’m going to do my best to go with my head over my heart here, so here we go. Cam Newton and Russell Wilson both looked great last week in there week 1 wins. But, the difference in this game I think is going to be ball control and defense and that’s where I think the Patriots have the very very very slight edge. You still have this new offense with Cam operating it that teams don’t really have tape on (just the Miami game) and it’s gonna be hard for Seattle to prepare for it. Russell Wilson is one of the best players in the NFL. He is amazing and he has the best deep ball in the NFL and it’s not even close. This is going to be a game that goes down to the wire. A late Sony Michel touchdown run seals this one as I am up yelling at my TV until this game ends.
Josh’s Pick: Patriots 21-16
New Orleans (1-0) at Las Vegas (1-0) , 8:15 p.m.
This is the definition of a trap game for New Orleans if I ever have seen one. The Raiders high off there week 1 win over the Panthers are finally playing in their new stadium (it feels like they have been building it for 20 years). I understand there aren’t any fans (were there ever fans at Raiders games anyway?) but I expect the Raiders to put up a hell of a fight in this game. The Saints beat Tampa Bay Sunday in a highly anticipated match up but we did not see the Saints offense that we are used to seeing. Brees struggled (18/30 160 yards, but did have 2 TD) and Michael Thomas (3 catches for 17 yards) and newly signed WR Emmanuel Sanders ( 3 catches 15 yards, TD) was shut down for most of this game. Lucky for the Saint’s Alvin Kamara is going to break out this game (120 total yards 2 TD) and lead them over a valiant effort by Derek Carr (280 yards, 2 TD, INT) and running back Josh Jacobs (104 yards rushing, TD). Despite the fact, Michael Thomas might not play I expect Brees to play better (300 plus yards 2 TD) and Emmanuel Sanders to step up (100 plus yards receiving TD) as I expect the Saints to limit Thomas’s snaps even if he does suit up. The Saints win a close one and move to 2-0.
Josh’s Pick: Saints 31-23
