Lions Gate’s Dreamkatcher recently came out to rent on demand and on DVD this week. This one turned out to be a nice little supernatural shocker with a great cast. The movie is a grounded horror-thriller that explores themes of science vs the supernatural.
The cast features Linda Shaye. In her career spanning over forty years, she has appeared in over ninety feature films and is regarded as a scream queen due to her roles in various horror franchises or films including A Nightmare on Elm Street, Critters, Insidious, Dead End, 2001 Maniacs and its sequel 2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams, Alone in the Dark, Amityville: A New Generation, Tales of Halloween, Abattoir, Ouija, and its prequel Ouija: Origin of Evil.
Radha Mitchell plays a woman who is recently married to Henry Thomas who also has a small boy played by Finlay Wojtak-Hissong (The Banana Split Movie). She plays the boy’s stepmother pretty well in the movie. Lin Shaye plays their mysterious neighbor whose home is surrounded by all sorts of mystical items.
The little boy suffers from nightmares and steals an ancient dreamcatcher from her home. Throughout the film, strange and frightening events take place surrounding the boy and his parents are unaware that a malicious entity has possessed him and is slowing commanding him to murder his new stepmother.
I personally enjoyed this movie, they definitely had the jump scares in the right places and the movie had a spooky atmosphere to it as well. Kind of reminded me of the Jeffrey Dean Morgan movie called The Possession which I highly recommend as well.
Dreamkatcher is available to watch now as it was released on April, 28th of this year. Does this film seem like something that you would be interested in? If you like supernatural horror films this one is for you!
