If you havern’t read my last article on Fifa 21, I went through 5 midfielders one from each of the top 5 leagues in Europe and picked a cheap starting midfielder that looked to be a good card for this years Ultimate Team. I’ll be doing the same in this article but picking one centre back from each league that looks like they may fly under the radar.
Premier League – Chris Smalling
Smalling has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford and a return to Roma, where he spent last seaon on loan, looks to be on the cards but if that move never materialises Smalling could be a hidden gem at the start of Fifa.
The transfer window ends on the 5th October and with Fifa being released on the 2nd, there is a possiblity that Smalling will have both a Man United card and Roma card. But Smalling has a great card for a 79 rated this year with 81 defending and physical and at 6’4 with 75 sprint speed Smalling will be a hard card to beat. 88 strength and 82 heading as well means that the defender will be a physical presence in the air.
Although his dribbling and passing stats aren’t the best, he won’t be using them as much as he has a high defensive work rate and will rarely be caught out of position. A great cheap player to start this years Fifa out with whether that be in the Premier League or Serie A.
La Liga – Aissa Mandi
Mandi has had a solid card on Fifa for a few years now and Fifa 21 is no different. The 79 rated centre back boasts 80 defending and 75 physical as well as having impressive passing at 74 and 71 dribbling meaning he will rarely be caught out trying to play the ball out from defence.
His height may be a bit of a issue as he is only 6 foot tall but does have 83 interceptions and 81 sliding tackle which is key for someone who will be doing a lot of defending against players that will be dribbling directly at the defence. But his 80 jumping will help out with his height and although he may be beaten a few times in the air he will make up for it with his tackling ability.
Possibly the best defender to play out of the back with, Mandi has 81 short passing as well as 78 long passing mix this with his 78 composure and 77 ball control and you have a central defender who will not only tackle the opposition but will also help you get out of a sticky situation.
Bundesliga – Tapsoba
A player who has become a gold card this year and was widely popular on career mode last year Tapsoba, the 21 year old, has been given a great card for the start of Fifa this year.
With 74 pace, 78 defending and 78 physical Tapsoba is a beast of a man especially when you combine this with his 6’4 stature. In a league where many of the defenders are high rated or quite slow, Tapsobe mixes his strength at 79 with great pace and defending for such a low rated card.
Although he doesn’t have the dribbling or passing ability of others on this list, Tapsoba looks to be a solid starting card and with the right chemistry style on him could become mainstay for the start of Fifa 21.
Serie A – Mateo Musacchio
The first non-rare of the list and someone who has been in Serie A for long time, Musacchio has always been a useable card for the start of Fifa. Not known for his pace, he makes up for it with his impressive 82 defending and 70 physical.
You won’t be playing out from the back with Musacchio but his 83’s in interceptions, defensive awareness and standing tackle make up for this as well as his 80 sliding tackle and 83 jumping. Musacchion will rarely be beaten in the air as well as sticking to his man due to his great defesive stats.
Yes, he may not be able to catch a striker if the ball is player over the top but he will rarely be caught so far forward. Play Musacchio in a back four with another centre back with a little more pace and you may possibly have one of the strongest defences for the begining of Fifa.
Ligue 1 – Alexander Djiku
Alexander Djiku was a very underrated CB on the last Fifa and wasn’t used as much due to his rating and the fact that he plays in Ligue 1. however, the RC Strasbourg defender does look to be a great card for the start of this years game.
His 80 physical that has 82 jumping and 80 strength, stamina and aggression make him a very eye catching card and with his 77 defending may be the best cheap centre back across 90 mintues. His 69 pace, stop laughing, looks a little undisirable but with 73 sprint speed and 79 defensive awareness, Djiku won’t have to chase many strikers back.
Although there are better options in the league for defenders, for me I can see Djiku being a hidden gem and someone who will drift right under the radar for a few weeks at the start of Fifa 21.
That’s my list of the five cheap centre backs for the start of Fifa, let me know if you have a different opinion or if there is a specific nation or league you want me to look into next.
