Today marks the 32nd anniversary of one of the most popular fan favorites out of the entire series. Friday the 13th Part VII opened in theaters on May 13th, 1988.
One of the many reasons this one is a fan favorite is that it is the first appearance of Kane Hodder as Jason Voorhees. Most people thought it was an interesting spin to have someone with telekinetic powers to defend themselves. Kane Hodder played the perfect version of Jason Voorhees that everyone had been waiting for. Definitely very menacing and scary.
The movie centers on a widow and her teenage daughter (Lar Park Lincoln) who return to their summer home in the town of Crystal Lake. The teenager has telekinesis and her doctor thinks he can get huge reactions out of her since her father had died on the lake years before. Her hidden rage and trauma accidentally make her free the legendary hockey-masked killer from his watery grave and he quickly begins to kill anyone in the area, including a pack of teens staying next door.
This one had everything! Awesome kills, gratuitous nudity, and a huge finale showdown between the teenager and Jason Voorhees where all she had was her powers to keep her alive in order to defeat him. This one also features the infamous sleeping bag kill and showcased a large array of multiple murder weapons.
Friday the 13th part VII: The New Blood still remains a top favorite of mine and it is currently available to watch for free on Amazon Prime.
