Greetings and Salutations and welcome back to another Guilty Pleasure Movie Pick. Not only is this a fun action movie featuring two of Hollywood’s biggest stars at the time in Sylvester Stallone and Wesley Snipes, but here in 2020, there are several things in this movie that are now very relatable. Today’s guilty pleasure movie pick is 1993’s, Demolition Man.
- Sylvester Stallone as John Spartan
- Wesley Snipes as Simon Phoenix
- Sandra Bullock as Lenina Huxley
The movie starts off in 1996 in Los Angeles. John Spartan has been hot on the trail of capturing super-criminal Simon Phoenix. When Spartan finally does apprehend Phoenix, unfortunately, there are innocent victims during the capture. Not only does Simon Phoenix pay for his crimes but they make John Spartan pay for them as well by freezing them both and sub-doing them to subliminal rehabilitation.
In The Year 2032
We now fast forward 36 years to the year 2032 and the city of LA is no more. It is now know as San Angeles a peaceful place to live where crime in almost nonexistent. In fact just the act of graffiti vandalism is seen as an eventful day for this city’s current police officers.
Your Wish Is Granted
While at a peaceful police station, Lenina Huxley says to one of her fellow officers that she’d for once like to see a little action. Well she is going to get her wish as things in San Angeles are about to get very interesting
During Simon Phoenix’s parole hearing he’s able to manage an escape. Immediately Simon picks up right where he left off and that’s wreaking havoc. With the police unable to deal with such a criminal their only option is to unleash the Demolition Man himself John Spartan.
In The Year 2020
Now if I had suggested this movie to someone who had never seen it back in January of 2020 some of the references would have seemed comical as they intended to be. Jump to present day here in April of 2020 and they seem relatable. In the movie they don’t use toilet paper any more they use the three seashells. And handshaking and physical contact no longer exists as well.
Where To See It
While at this time Demolition Man is not available for streaming on Netflix or Prime it is available for rent on YouTube for $2.99
Why I Recommend Demolition Man
Demolition Man is just one of those classic 90’s action movies. The story is fun. Stallone is classic Stallone as John Spartan. But it’s Wesley Snipes who steals the show as Simon Phoenix here. His character is way over the top and he just looks like he had a blast causing trouble here in San Angeles. Plus all the rules that the citizens now live by makes this movie relevant again in 2020.
