Manchester City and German midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has tested positive for Covid-19 ahead of Man City’s opening Premier League fixture against Wolves tonight. The 29 year old will now enter a 10 day isolation period but will be allowed to train away from the squad unless he begins showing symptoms.
Gundogan becomes the third player from City’s squad to test positive after fellow team mates Riyad Mahrez and defender Aymeric Laporte tested positive however, both of them are now back in full training.
Manchester City put out the following statement: “Everyone at the club wishes Ilkay a speedy recovery.” But the club were unwilling to give any further details on the midfielders situation.
City are set to play Wolves tonight but also have a busy schedule ahead with their opening round Carabao Cup tie on Thursday against Bournemouth and then will host Leicester City on Sunday.
