Arguably one of the most popular duos’ in music history is Hall & Oates. Now I understand there have been many famous singing duos throughout the music business. But none have enjoyed as much longevity as Daryl Hall and John Oates.
Both Daryl and John were from the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area. The two were heavily influenced by the soul music they heard from the city of brotherly love. Their musical journey began as they were both students at Temple University. Each were in separate bands until they realized they had a similar taste in music.
Hall and Oates were then born under manager Tommy Mottola, the two would sign with Atlantic records. In 1974 they scored their big hit “She’s Gone.” In 1975 the RCA years started, the song “Sara Smile” landed in the top 10, later in 1977 “Rich Girl” became their first number one.
The duo took a different approach in the 1980s, adding different elements to their music. The self-produced Voices album saw the duo begin to see their greatest commercial success.
Thank you Hall & Oates for all of the wonderful music throughout the years.
