Harry Maguire has been detained by police authorities on the Greek island of Mykonos for an alleged incident between a group of his friends and another set of Englishmen. The incident took place outside of a bar on the early hours of Friday morning, it is believed that Maguire is being fully co-operative with the authorities.
The incident in question is rather clouded as some news outlets are claiming the incident was an assault on other tourists, whereas some are claiming that the Man United captain had assaulted police officers after the incident originally took place. The club have released the following statement;
“The club is aware of an alleged incident involving Harry Maguire in Mykonos last night. Contact has been made with Harry, and he is fully co-operating with the Greek authorities. At this time we will be making no further comment.”
Maguire who arrived at United last summer after an £80 million move from Leicester is on vacation in Greece after the club failed to make the final of the Europa League. Two other Englishmen were also detained.
A policeman at the scene has been quoted in saying,
“The football player was verbally abusive to an officer and then hit him. The three were resisting when brought to the Mykonos police station.”
