It’s been a tough week for WWE and today has made things even tougher as the wrestling community lost the greatest ring announcer of all time. Howard Finkle better known to the WWE Universe as “The Fink” has passed away this morning.
Howard started working for the company in 1975 for Vince McMahon Sr. and his World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF). By 1977 he was ring announcer making him the longest tenured employee for the company!
His first time announcing was at the historic mecca of wrestling, Madison Square Garden in New York City.
By 1979 he had become the organization’s lead ring announcer for their biggest events. Despite announcing for the WWWF, Finkel’s employment is recognized by WWE as beginning on April 1, 1980 under the company’s current incorporation.
The Fink has been in multiple storylines and has off and on announced at big events, some house shows, and was the voice of the WWE Hall Of Fame.
In recent years, he had been working in a backstage role for WWE.
Howard is known as the greatest announcer in wrestling history and that got him the honor of being inducted in the 2009 WWE Hall Of Fame.
