Actress and wife of John Travolta Kelly Preston has passed away of Breast Cancer at age 57.
“On the morning of July 12, 2020, Kelly Preston, adored wife, and mother, passed away following a two-year battle with breast cancer,” a family representative tells PEOPLE exclusively.
“Choosing to keep her fight private, she had been undergoing medical treatment for some time, supported by her closest family and friends,” the family rep says. “She was a bright, beautiful, and loving soul who cared deeply about others and who brought life to everything she touched. Her family asks for your understanding of their need for privacy at this time.”
Kelly has been in movies Jerry Maguire, Twins, From Dusk Til Dawn, and Nothing To Lose. Her final film was in 2018 Gotti in which she played Victoria Gotti the wife of John Gotti who was portrayed by her real-life husband John Travolta. She and Travolta were Married in 1991 and have 3 children daughter Ella 20, and Benjamin 9. Their son Jett died at the age of 16.
John Travolta said this about his late wife Kelly,
She fought a courageous fight with the love and support of so many. My family and I will forever be grateful to her doctors and nurses at MD Anderson Cancer Center, all the medical centers that have helped, with many friends and loved ones who have been by her side. Kelly’s love and life will always be remembered.”
Preston has not had any pictures taken in public at any major event in Hollywood since back in June 2018, when the actress walked the famous red carpet with her husband Travolta for the premiere of his film ”Gotti.” The motion picture was based on the notorious mobster John Gotti, where she played his wife Victoria Gotti, and John portrayed John Gotti.
Kelly Preston was born Kelly Kamalelehua Smith in Honolulu, Hawai. Preston had studied acting at the University of Southern California, She would start landing small roles on TV sitcoms such as “ChiPs” and “Roseanne.”
Preston landed the role, where she played Mary Lee on the short-lived television series “ For the Love and Honor.”
After that it would lead to bigger roles in film, even starring in the 1988 comedy “Twins”, alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny Devito.
She met husband John Travolta during a screen test for the film “The Experts.”
Preston did an interview in 2018 on the “Live with Kelly and Ryan,” to discuss how she and Travolta eloped in Paris in 1991, after the couple’s wedding plans in New York City were unmanageable.
In 1992 she and Travolta would Welcome their first child, son Jett, who tragically died in 2009 following a seizure, during a family vacation in the Bahamas.
