Manchester City have completed the signing of Rúben Dias from Benfica for £40 million plus centre back Nicolás Otamendi.
Diaz will join City on a 5 year deal and is expected to complete his medical this weekend. Man City offered the same deal to Sevilla for French center back Koundé but were rejected.
The 23 year old has played his entire senior career at Benfica, first appearing for the senior squad in 2017. Since then he has played 134 games for them and scored 11 goals including an very impressive 33 games in Liga Nos last season.
Whilst City already signed Dutch defender Ake in the summer transfer window Pep Guardiola targeted the young defender as a key prospect for the club to invest in.
Nicolás Otamendi on the other hand joined City in 2015 after an impressive campaign in La Liga with Valencia. Otamendi has come under a lot of criticism in recent years with the Argentine’s style of defending not being a huge hit in the Premier League.
Otamendi, 32, will sign a contract with Benfica until 2023 and will fly to complete his medical before next weekend’s game.
Dias will be available for City’s game next week against Leeds United.
