With Mother’s Day approaching this weekend, I decided to talk about an absolute favorite film of mine. Mother’s Day (2010) was released back in 2010 and it definitely packs a punch. The overall tone of the film is extremely gruesome and intense. Not too much of a horror film, but more of a messed up psychological thriller.
The plot focuses on a villainous mother cleverly played by Rebecca De Mornay (The Hand that Rocks the Cradle) and her four criminally deranged children played by Patrick John Flueger, Warren Kole, Matt O’Leary, and Deborah Ann Woll (True Blood). While the family is on the run, they return to their family home that she lost in foreclosure and find that a married couple has moved in. The couple is played by Jaime King and Frank Grillo. They find themselves and a group of their houseguests under attack throughout the movie. There is plenty of carnage and bloodshed in this movie as the couple and their friends are in for one hell of a fight to survive the night.
Mother’s Day offers some some great and terrifying surprises throughout it and has you on the edge of your seat.
Also stars Briana Evigan, Shawn Ashmore, A.J. Cook (criminal minds), and Alexa Pena Vega and is directed by Darren Lynn Bousman ( SAW 2,3,4 and the upcoming SAW flick Spiral, Repo).
Other Crazy Mother’s in Film
Now to mention a few other crazed mothers in cinema. Hush starring Jessica Lange as a diabolical widow who terrorizes her son’s pregnant fiance played by Gwyneth Paltrow.
Jamie Lee Curtis played a deranged mother who involves her children in a deadly mind game to get rid of their father’s fiance in the psychological thriller Mother’s Boys.
Patricia Arquette played a disturbed mother in Hulu’s The Act.
Also the upcoming movie with Sarah Paulson called Run has yet to score a new release date. Sarah Paulson plays a crazy mother who results to deadly lengths to keep her paralyzed daughter safe.
Wishing all moms everywhere a very Happy Mother’s Day!!
