The New Japan Cup USA will be an eight man, single elimination tournament. Also the winner will be granted a future IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship opportunity. The fist round certainly has a few interesting matchups. For example Brody King versus Tama Tonga should be fun. Also, Karl Fredericks against KENTA is a make up from the original plan for the New Japan cup. The only matchup in the first round that we’ve seen before is Chase Owens and David Finlay. However, their history should make for a good match too.
NJPW STRONG will not only have all of the tournament but will continue every Friday for the foreseeable future. The show was created because of the overwhelming response to the Lion’s Break Collision events. Also, it’s a great way to utilize wrestlers stuck outside of Japan. This is great news for NJPW fans because we get more content, another tournament, returning wrestlers and interesting matchups. I can’t wait.
