A night after the Stars and Knights kicked off the Western Conference Final; it was the Islanders and Lightning’s turn to battle it out in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals. The Lightning wasted no time getting on the board tonight. They got the lead on a goal by Brayden Point at 1:14 to make it 1-0. Jordan Eberle tied things up at 4:33 of the 1st. However, Viktor Hedman and Ryan McDonagh scored just over 2 minutes apart; making it 3-1 Lightning going into the 2nd period.
Yanni Gourde made it 4-1 at 4:03 of the frame and Brayden Point added his second on the night to make it 5-1 at 13:18. Nikita Kucherov continued to barrage of goals for the Lightning to make it 6-1 in the 3rd at 5:51. Nick Leddy made it 6-2 at 8:46 of the 3rd in an attempt to give the Islanders some life. Ondrej Palat slammed that door shut less than a minute later with the 7-2 goal. Yanni Gourde added salt to the wound at 13:15 making it 8-2 as the Lightning pressed on. Bolts went on to win 8-2 as they completely embarrassed the Islanders in Game 1 to take the series lead. Game 2 is scheduled Wednesday night at 8pm ET.
