The Dallas Stars and Colorado Avalanche marked the start of the conference semi final round with an entertaining Game 1.
Stars vs Avalanche | Stars lead best-of-7 series 1-0
Tyler Seguin got things going with his first of the playoffs four minutes into the 1st period. MacKinnon responded a minute later to tie the game up at one. The Stars would add two more taking a 3-1 lead into the 2nd period. Yep – another 3-1 lead! Landeskog go the Avs back into it at 4:36 of the 2nd period to make it 3-2. However, Radulov scored his second of the game five minutes later to restore the 2-goal lead for the Stars. MacKinnon scored again to make it 4-3 to end the 2nd. The Avs suffered a huge blow at 16:54 of the 2nd when goalie Philipp Grubauer went down after an awkward stretch-save. Pavel Francouz came in for relief of the Avs starting netminder.
Dallas made it 5-3 just under the half-way mark of the 3rd period on a goal by Roope Hintz. That would be it for this game as the Stars were able to hold on after the dreaded 3-1 lead to take Game 1.
Highlight of the Night
Once again Nathan MacKinnon showed just how good he is as he took off with a burst a speed and fired a perfect shot by Khudobin.
Mike Milbury Leaves NBC
Earlier in the night, as broken live on Episode 4 of Between The Pipes, Mike Milbury released a statement through NBC’s Twitter account; indicating he was taking a leave from NBC as a broadcaster for the remainder of the playoffs.
I have a feeling he won’t be back, as NBC would take an absolute lashing if they brought him back on board. If Don Cherry was ousted for his “you people” comment that was ridiculously blown out of proportion – no way does Mike Milbury see network time again.
