Polaroid is a teenage supernatural thriller that is currently on Netflix. I particularly enjoy these types of films that are similar to the Final Destination Films, The Grudge, One Missed Call, and The Ring.
Polaroid is similar to those films, only this one features a cursed vintage camera.
I enjoyed this one mostly because the films’ atmosphere was especially dark and spooky. Some of the deaths were pretty neat.
The plot focuses on a young high school student played by Kathryn Prescott of MTV’s Finding Carter who comes across an old vintage camera. She is unaware of a dark spirit that is attached to the camera and when she takes someone’s picture, they mysteriously die. She uses the camera at a party to take a group picture of her friends, and when one of them suddenly dies, she discovers the same thing has happened to people who had the camera before her. She races against time to discover the mystery behind the camera’s original owners and discovers a blood-curdling family secret.
Polaroid also stars Mitch Pileggi, Katie Stevens (Eli Roth’s Haunt), Madelaine Petsch (Riverdale), and Grace Zabriskie. Also, Javier Botet plays the entity in this one. He previously has played other supernatural villains in films including Mama, Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark, Insidious 4, Slender Man, The Conjuring 2 and both of the new IT movies.
While not overly violent, this movie relies more on effective jump scares and an intense feeling of dread surrounding the characters who encounter the evil entity.
I have to say that Polaroid (2019) on Netflix is an excellent supernatural Thriller and is definitely worth a watch!!
