PSG have contacted Chelsea over a potenial loan move for centre back Antonio Rudiger who has been left out of the last 2 Chelsea squads. Rudiger, 27, was a first choice defender for Frank Lampard last season but seems to have fallen down the pecking order.
Rudiger is said to be relaxed about his situation but accepts he needs to be playing first team football to secure his place in Germany’s squad for next summer’s European Championships. Lampard was asked about the possiblity of Rudiger leaving Stamford Bridge after the German was left out of the 18 man squad for their game against Barnsley in the Carabao Cup. Lampard advised that there “could be movement” during this transfer window but gave no specifics as to where the defender may end up.
It has been noted that PSG have been looking for centre back since Thiago Silva left the French capital at the end of last season, Silva ended up joining Chelsea on a free transfer. But the French champions have made Rudiger their number one priority and will look to secure a season long loan for the German international.
Antonio Rudiger joined Chelsea from Roma in 2017 and has gone on to make 115 appearances in 3 years for The Blues. Rudiger is also a regular German international, becoming a first choice centre back in a back three for Joachim Löw’s side. Rudiger will look to leave Stamford Bridge this summer in search of first team football to gain a call up to the national side.
Others are interested in the centre back with Barcelona also looking into his availability but PSG look to be the front runners to secure the 27 year old. Stay tuned for more information.
