The Brooklyn Nets have hired Hall of Fame guard, Steve Nash, as their next Head Coach according to Nets team officials. He has signed a four-year contract and has retained Jacque Vaughn, who took over coaching duties on an interim basis after Kenny Atkinson’s dismissal. Vaughn will be Nash’s lead assistant on staff.
The Nets job signals Nash’s first attempt into coaching following an 18-year career that ended in 2014. The most recent role he held was as a player consultant with the Golden State Warriors, a few years back.
Nash was never publicly reported as a candidate for the Nets’ coaching role so when they announced his signing this morning heads were probably shocked at the pick, however, Marks had quietly been targeting him for quite some time.
Nash developed a relationship with Kevin Durant when he was out west with him and I’m sure that the Nets’ brass wanted to bring in a face that would work well with Durant.
I think this is a good hire for the Nets on paper but we can only find out how it will work once he has to start coaching.
