We are just 8 days removed from WrestleMania 36, the most unique presentation of WrestleMania we’ve ever seen. Wrestlemania was incredible. It crowned new Universal and WWE champions. Had a legendary last man standing match between Edge and Randy Orton. Who can forget the critically acclaimed Boneyard Match? BUT the best part of the weekend was the artistic masterpiece that was the Firefly Funhouse Match between John Cena and the 4 faces of Bray Wyatt!
Firefly Funhouse fun
I want to examine this a bit deeper and show everyone how not only did the Funhouse Match lift Bray’s career, but it also evolved his character. Now I know everyone likes to compare Bray Wyatt to The Undertaker because of his supernatural abilities when in all actuality Bray Wyatt has become a better version of WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley. And I’m going to show just how the Funhouse match displays all the personalities of Bray Wyatt and hopefully, the WWE will use this moving forward.
The 4 Faces of Bray Wyatt
The match starts with John Cena making his entrance only to have it cut short by the intro to the Firefly Funhouse. Where there we see Jovial Bray Wyatt, Ramblin Rabbit, and Abby the Witch. Bray exists the Funhouse as Cena appears looking for him. Cena finds himself confronted by Evil BossMcMahon puppet asking Cena if he has enough “Ruthless Aggression” to become a star in this business. We then get a cut scene of John Cena’s debut against Kurt Angle but only this time Jovial Bray Wyatt is issuing the challenge, Cena comes out in his prototype gear and goes through the same spiel with Angle. He tries to strike Bray but we see him using supernatural abilities (which Jovial Bray hadn’t displayed before) make Cena miss as he taunts John about the gimmicks failures and tells him why he sees he almost got fired.
We get a Saturday Night Main Event intro and then we see Muscle Man Bray ushing John Cena in the gym. Much like a personal trainer would do it was very entertaining. Bray then tells Cena he is about to get hit by EgoMania and he tosses him back to the old SmackDown set but only this time he comes back as the Dr. Thuganomics.
He goes to the ring and begins to rap about Bray and his failures even name dropping Husky Harris. He talks about Bray’s inability to capitalize on his opportunities where Bray responds to John by telling him not to talk about opportunities he’s missed on but talk about opportunities taken away by John Cena.
Then we get an old Bray Wyatt cut scene with the old TV effect where we see “The Eater of Worlds” Bray Wyatt in his rocking chair back at the Wyatt family compound. He cuts an epic promo about how he was the best thing in the WWE 6 years ago and how the fans wanted him and John Cena killed his push by not putting him over at WrestleMania 30.
We see the Eater of Worlds appear and he gives John Cena a steel chair and tells him to end him and do what he should have done 6 years ago, Cena goes to swing the chair and Bray disappears and Cena racing out of the ring to go find him.
Hollywood John Cena?
We see the intro to Monday Nitro and see Jovial Bray reappear but this time cosplaying Eric Bischoff. Cena gets an epic introduction from Bray who calls him the greatest thing the wrestling industry has ever seen and we see Cena entering decked out in now black and white gear with the World Heavyweight Championship just like Hollywood Hulk Hogan.
The two would have another exchange [evil boss puppet took the time to remind us “This is such good S#%!]. Then we would see Cena tackle Bray to the ground and begin whaling on him as all the puppets watched from the Funhouse. They begged Cena to get off of him because he was hurting him and HE was not going to like it. He continues only for Cena to wake up in his ring gear beating up Huskis the Pigboy,.The lights would flicker and The Fiend (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Kza7j4aae4) would then appear and hit Cena with a Sister Abagail before locking in the Mandible Cawl, Jovial Bray counted the three count as The Fiend stood tall and Cena disappeared.
This match was perfect creatively if you’re a fan that understood all of the subliminal messages. Now it wasn’t your typical wrestling match and not everyone’s cup of tea but that was the best thing I’ve seen on WWE TV in a long time. So back to my original point Bray is the Modern Day Mick Foley only better and the Funhouse Match displayed all the faces of Bray.
Muscle Man Bray
Eater of Worlds
When you look at the original concept that Mick Foley had, each of his characters offered something different. There was an element about each one that was special.
Bray has perfected this by adopting things from the original concepts and origins of all his previous gimmicks.
So what’s next for “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt?
“Baa, baa, black sheep, have you any wool?”
LET ME IN!
