Today we celebrate the 75th birthday of the great Tom Selleck. What a career he has had and continues to this day. Selleck currently stars as New York Police Commissioner Frank Reagan in the hit TV series Blue Bloods.
Selleck had his breakout when he starred in the series Magnum P.I. He played the lead role, Thomas Magnum. The series enjoyed an incredible run from 1980 to 1988. He would win an Emmy and Golden Globe for this role. Selleck would also star in made for TV movies such as The Jesse Stone Series that was based on the Robert B. Parker Novels.
Tom had a chance to star in Raiders of the Lost Ark but CBS blocked him from doing so. He would find his way back to the big screen in 1987 starring in Three Men and a Baby.
Some of my personal favorite Tom Selleck roles include Innocent Man, Quigley Down Under, and Mr. Baseball. He also starred as Dr. Richard Burke in the hit tv series Friends as Monica’s boyfriend. He had such great comedic wit in this role.
He really has stood the test of time by being able to play diverse roles. On top of his action and comedic roots, he was also made for Westerns. As he starred in Monte Walsh and Crossfire Trail.
Tom is still going strong today and shows no signs of aging or slowing down.
Happy 75th Birthday Tom Selleck. Here’s to many more.
BTW: What an incredible mustache.
Editors Note: I have listened to Tom Selleck’s biggest fan rant and rave about him since I was a young kid. He has always been my mother, Char King’s favorite actor. Thank you for continuing to entertain her to this day.
