Twister was a huge hit in 1996. The movie starred Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton and it was about a group of storm chasers that create a device that can study Tornadoes from the inside but to get inside the Tornado they have to get in front of it so the Tornado can suck it up. What ensues is the biggest Tornado in history.
Fans of the movie will have a reboot to look forward to as Universal is in the works of developing the movie. Joseph Kosinski, the filmmaker behind the upcoming Top Gun: Maverick, is in talks to direct. The movie will be produced by Frank Marshall the husband of Kathleen Kennedy who produced the original film. And they are already looking for writers!! The original film was penned by Michael Crichton and Anne-Marie Martin.
Warner Bros. released the original film, which earned $494.4 million globally. Kosinski is known for his visual style which would be perfect for making a movie of huge Tornadoes. Top Gun: Maverick which he directed and has Tom Cruise returning in has had it’s release date delayed due to the coronavirus but from clips of the movie it has a you-are-there quality which makes him a perfect director for the film.
No word on who will be cast and the script is not in development yet but as a Twister fan I am very excited about this project.
