During the Merseyside side derby today, that ended 2-2 after a controversial offside decision given by VAR that ruled out Jordan Henderson’s stoppage-time winner, Virgil Van Dijk was forced to leave the field of play.
The Dutch international was subject to a horror challenge from Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, as the England number 1 horrifically dove in two-footed at the defender’s leg in an attempt to block a shot at goal.
Van Dijk was ruled as offside before the ball reached him but the challenge that followed will make any football fan cringe. Pickford faced no further action from either the referee or VAR even after such a horrendous challenge.
But reports are now circulating that the Liverpool defender has suffered an ACL tear due to the challenge and will face 7-8 months on the sideline.
ACL injuries are the bane of many football player’s careers and in some cases can end a player’s career. Although it is early, there are reports the Van Dijk will need to undergo surgery on his knee.
All of us at All Everything Entertainment wish the defender a speedy recovery from the injury.
