I rented We Summon The Darkness tonight on Amazon Prime and was pleasantly surprised at how much of a blast this film was.
Directed by Marc Meyers who had previously written and directed the true-crime movie My Friend Dahmer, didn’t pull any punches with this dark and satirical film. He also did a great job of adding the 80s feel to the movie and all of the heavy metal music.
The movie centers on 3 female friends wickedly played by Alexandra Daddario (Texas Chainsaw, Baywatch), Maddie Hasson, and Amy Forsyth (Hell Fest and Channel Zero) who embark on a trip to a heavy metal concert. The girls ignore reports about a series of satanic murders that are recently occurring in the area. They meet up with a few guys from the concert and decide to have a small party of their own and that’s when the devilish fun begins.
The whole theme of the movie is centered around the whole satanic panic era. So what was fun about this, was that you didn’t really know who all at first was in on the grisly killings.
I personally enjoyed this flick a lot. Especially the whole retro vibe it put off. The acting was decent enough to enjoy, even though Johnny Knoxville’s part was pretty watered down.
This clever and fiendish film is definitely not one to miss out on.
We Summon The Darkness is currently available on Amazon and Video on Demand and is being released on DVD at a later date by Lions Gate and Saban Films.
