My Wrestlemania 36 Predictions! by Anthony S. DiSalvatore
Hello everybody! If you don’t know who I am yet, I’m the Overly Opinionated Wrestling Fan! The premise of this article is very simple. I go through the card of Wrestlemania 36, and I tell you who’s going to win and why. At the very least, it should be fun to revisit this after the show and see how my aim is. Will 20 plus years as a wrestling fan give me more insight into how this show will transpire? Let’s find out!
A note to the reader: I don’t know what the order of the matches on the show is supposed to be, so I’ll be talking about them in their order of importance. No sense in waiting any longer, let’s get into it!
Otis vs. Dolph Ziggler
This should be your pre-show match. Everybody wants to see Dolph get his ass kicked, and any other ending would just be wrong at this point. Otis is a sympathetic favorite, and they’ve waited long enough to pull the trigger. If I were in charge, this match would last about six minutes including entrances. Remember, it is an underneath match, so it doesn’t need to go forever.
Elias vs. King Corbin
I can’t for the life of me understand why this rivalry is even going on. I’m pretty sure it started with Elias playing his guitar or something and it hasn’t progressed much further since then. I have to give this one to Corbin, even though it pains me because I do like Elias, but he did fall off of that podium last Friday. He shouldn’t be at 100% for this, and Corbin will get the win on that basis. I’d be surprised if this match made it past the pre-show.
Bobby Lashley vs. Aleister Black
Here it is, the match nobody in the world asked for! According to all the promotional material I’ve seen, I guess Lana is supposed to be in Bobby’s corner for this. I thought we were finally rid of her! This should be the opening match for the show because Aleister Black does have a sweet entrance and people are into it. If they wait too long for this one, nobody will care, so they better do it early unless they want everybody watching to fall asleep. Aleister will win with the Kick of Death, like always.
Street Prophets vs. Austin Theory & Angel Garza
This one is for the RAW tag team titles, so like most tag team matches these days, it’ll go way too long and have a bunch of kickouts, and I’ll tune out about halfway through. Having said that, the Street Prophets should win. They only just won the titles, and their opponents have only teamed up once. It wouldn’t make much sense from a logic standpoint to have this thrown together team beat the champions.
Daniel Bryan vs. Sami Zayn
Up next, we have the Intercontinental title match. We know Sami is willing to play dirty to protect his title, and I fully expect him to bring Cesaro and Nakamura along. Again, it wouldn’t make much sense after Sami Zayn JUST won the title to have him lose it, even to Daniel Bryan. This match has the potential to steal the show, much like Bryan did with Drew Gulak recently. Sami Zayn wins with a running kick after Bryan gets distracted.
Kabuki Warriors vs. Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross
I know this is technically a title match, but does anybody care about these titles anymore? Asuka and Kairi Sane have been champions for like a year. I’m surprised they’re even defending these, but I have Asuka and Kairi winning. Hopefully, it doesn’t go too long.
Kevin Owens vs. Seth Rollins
Man, I can’t believe how far Seth has fallen in recent months. He was a top guy, and now he’s stuck in the mire with Kevin Owens. He deserves better, but Seth won’t win this match. Kevin’s being painted as a guy who never wins at Wrestlemania, which they’ve never brought up before now. The writing’s on the wall for this one. Seth will lose when he goes for the curb stomp, comes up empty, and eats a Stunner. Ugh.
Bayley vs. Lacey Evans vs. Naomi vs. Sasha Banks vs. Tamina
This match is going to be a cluster if you know what I mean. Standard multiple person match fare, only with more kickouts because it’s a title match. The seeds were planted last week for dissension between Sasha and Bayley. The rest of these women are supporting players, so they won’t be winning. Bayley’s been champion for nearly a year, and it’s very rare especially now for anybody to hold a title for that long. Sasha will win after she turns on Bayley.
Miz & Johnny vs. Usos vs. New Day
This is a ladder match for the Smackdown tag team titles. It should be given plenty of time. I hope with all my heart that Miz and Johnny win this one since they’re the most entertaining team on the show by far. Whatever the case, I can’t see New Day winning because they’ve already won enough. These guys jumped the shark when they started that pancake shit. Johnny knows his way around ladders, and Miz is clever. They’ll win that match for that reason. Look for Usos and New Day to destroy themselves, and Miz and Johnny to creep in the back door and snatch the titles.
John Cena vs. The Fiend
This is one I’m personally excited about. Bray Wyatt’s coming to get his win back from Wrestlemania 30! This one doesn’t need to be a classic. It shouldn’t last very long. This match isn’t about the moves, it’s about long-term storytelling. Cena will get his comeback in, Bray won’t even register it, and Cena will lose via Mandible Claw. The announcers will be quick to point out that Cena never gave up.
Charlotte vs. Rhea Ripley
I had to double-check this, but it’s an NXT title match! I can’t see Charlotte winning here. She’s done everything on all the other shows, but taking the NXT title might look like a demotion for her, so I can’t see them pulling the trigger. This match will be better than anybody expects. I haven’t seen much of Rhea Ripley, but she’s very tall and strongly built. This match will be strength vs. strength. Rhea Ripley will win with her standing submission hold. Charlotte will tap out, then cry again. I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s considering calling it a career by now.
Goldberg vs. ???
This match just got a hell of a lot more interesting! We all know it was supposed to be Roman Reigns in this match, but it’s been confirmed he won’t be showing up. I better not got into that here. Who will Goldberg’s opponent be? Your guess is as good as mine! If I had to pick one out of a hat, I’d go for Triple H. If Triple H is the opponent, Goldberg will win. Triple H has no reason to be Universal Champion at this point. If it’s anybody else, then this match is wide open.
Undertaker vs. AJ Styles
Some of you may think Styles will win this thing, but Undertaker’s winning. Don’t forget, Styles is the heel, even though he’s the god-king of the internet message boards. This match will take a while. Styles friends will get involved, so this match should have a lot of padding. Undertaker wins with the Tombstone. Since this is a Boneyard match, it really should go outdoors at some point. That would be awesome. These guys are having personal issues and a street fight concept is the best way to go.
Becky Lynch vs. Shayna Baszler
If you’ve read any of my reviews, you know how I feel about Becky. This run she’s on is just about over, and Shayna will be the one to end it. I’m expecting it to be similar to the Elimination Chamber match. Less than five minutes, Shayna wins with a chokehold.
Edge vs. Randy Orton
Speaking of personal issues, these guys are going to kill it. I’m convinced this will be the match of the night. I expect this to the longest match on the card. Edge is the sentimental favorite, but I have to take Orton in this one. He’s ruthless and cunning and he’s not afraid to pull the trigger. I think Edge will have the chance, but he’ll relent where Orton wouldn’t. That’ll make the difference.
Brock Lesnar vs. Drew McIntyre
This one should be the last match. Part of me thinks they’ll put Brock on before Becky, which would be nonsense. Brock will win in less than five minutes. I’m not convinced Drew can hang with him in the ring. He’s been a cheap shot artist for months now, that’s the only way he can get the upper hand. Brock doesn’t need to cheat. Drew will outlast Ricochet, but not by much.
So, what do you guys think? Who are you taking to win this year? If you like what you’ve seen so far, look out for my upcoming reviews on Smackdown and Wrestlemania this weekend! You guys should read them. I put a lot of work into these, so don’t be a dick!
