Four asteroids passed by the earth today Oct 1st, 2019. The first made the closest pass at 8:56 a.m. CST at 98,500 miles away. That’s less than half the distance between the Earth and the moon and was 28 feet in diameter.
The 2nd was 10:12 a.m. CST at a distance of 665,000 miles and traveling about 51,000 miles per hour and was about 82 feet in diameter.
The 3rd passed at 3 million miles away at 5:56 p.m. CST. and was 42-foot-diameter. The last one passed at 9:29 p.m. CST. Traveling at 24,200 mph, it came within 330,000 miles of Earth. SD8 is 65 feet in diameter.
These asteroids are called Apollo asteroids. They orbit the sun. They sometimes cross Earth’s orbital path. The earth’s gravitational pull could one day pull them into the atmosphere, but that won’t be today.
