AEW Dynamite On TNT 10/2 Debut Episode Review

AEW Dynamite had its debut episode and it was quite a debut, but did it live to the hype?

Did it live up to the anticipation?

Was it worth all the sacrifice and hard work that took place to make change happen in wrestling?

Well let’s break down Episode 1 of AEW Dynamite on TNT and see if they did just that:

Cody vs Sammy Guevara

This was the first match on TNT in 20 years and honestly, this match was okay. It didn’t hold my attention but there was some good action. Cody wins by pinfall. After the match Chris Jericho attacked Cody and laid an extended beatdown on Cody.

Prediction: Cody

Winner: Cody

Grade: C

MJF vs Brandon Cutler

Cutler’s first match was against the Salt Of The Earth Maxwell Jacob Friedman. It was a quick match and win for MJF as he won with the Salt Of The Earth submission. MJF is one of the best Heels in wrestling right now and I wouldn’t be surprised if he got an AEW Championship shot in the next year. This match didn’t need to be on this show though.

Prediction: MJF

Winner: MJF

Grade: D

Hangman Page vs PAC

These two are two of the best wrestlers in the world and they showed it here. Page was great. PAC was great. They gave each other all they had. PAC won though with a Black Arrow and submission to an unconscious Page for a victory. PAC has to be the next AEW Championship contender but that may have just gotten more complicated. More on that later…

Prediction: PAC

Winner: PAC

Grade: B

Riho vs Nyla Rose To Crown The 1st AEW Women’s Champion

This match was clunky. This match lasted longer than it should have but my god, what an ending. Riho actually beat Nyla Rose to become the AEW Women’s Champion. Afterwards, Rose attacked Riho and Michael Nakazawa who was celebrating with Riho. Just as Nyla was going to end Riho…Kenny Omega, no that is not a typo, KENNY OMEGA, came out for a save.

I could write for days on this creative decision but nevertheless Riho is your first AEW Women’s Champion.

Prediction: Nyla Rose

Winner: Riho

Grade: D

The Elite (Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks) vs Chris Jericho And 2 Mystery Partners

(Santana & Ortiz)

Six of the best talents in the world going face to face in tag team action but it didn’t take long for it to become a handicap match as Jon Moxley returned and took Omega out of the match. The two brawled through the crowd to a backstage area where Moxley gave the Deathrider DDT to Omega through a glass table. The match with those two next month will be NASTY.

The match continued and Jericho, Santana & Ortiz got the win.

Afterwards, Cody came out to get revenge on Jericho. Then Sammy Guevara came out to get revenge on Cody by kicking him down below.

Dustin Rhodes came out and kicked Guevara in his balls. Then someone attacked Dustin.

That someone is former WWE World Champion and current undefeated Bellator fighter Jake Hager FKA The All American American Jack Swagger. He came in and helped Jericho, Santana, Ortiz, and Guevara beat up The Elite and Dustin Rhodes. Jericho and Cody are due to fight for the AEW Championship next month at AEW Full Gear.

As for Hager, don’t be surprised if he’s in the AEW Championship picture in the next six months providing Bellator allows him to.

Prediction: Chris Jericho, Santana & Ortiz

Winner: Chris Jericho, Santana & Ortiz

Grade: C

What was the overall grade for the first episode of AEW Dynamite?

For me, AEW Dynamite is a C. Not terrible but not great. Just in the middle.

As all shows though, I’m sure they’ll pick it up especially with a PPV next month.

We are just getting started in the very long Wednesday Night Wars between AEW and WWE NXT and you can count on All Everything Entertainment to be there for all of it.
