Over a quarter of the season has come and gone and the AFC North has been drastically transformed from previous years. It’s no longer a battle between Baltimore and Pittsburgh for ownership of the division. It is now between Baltimore and the Cleveland Browns. Before the start of Week 5, the Ravens and Browns were tied on top of the AFC North, Pittsburgh was in third and Cincinnati was in the AFC North basement. Let’s see how the AFC North looks now after Week 5:
Cincinnati Bengals vs Arizona Cardinals
The Bengals were trying to win their first game of the season. Some games have been close, and some have been blowouts but none of them accumulated to wins. The same happened here. Andy Dalton was okay once again, 262 yards and 2 TDs on 27/38 passing. Cincinnati’s Tyler Boyd got 123 yards and 1 TD. Arizona’s Kyler Murray threw for 253 yards on 20/32 passing and 0 TDs but on the ground, he rushed for 93 yards and 1 TD. Bengals lose a close one, 26-23.
Stud Of The Game: Kyler Murray – 20/32, 253 yards, 0 TDs; 93 yards, 1 Rushing TD
Result: CIN 23 – ARI 26
Pittsburgh Steelers vs Baltimore Ravens
The next installment of this team but in a very different light. In the past, it was Ben Roethlisberger and Joe Flacco leading the teams. Now it’s Lamar Jackson for Baltimore and Mason Rudolph for Pittsburgh. The defenses are completely different as well. In this game, defense was key. Lamar Jackson was shut down, only passing for 161 yards and 1 TD and rushing for 70 yards. He also threw 3 interceptions which is the most he’s thrown this season in one game. Mason Rudolph was no better, 13/20, 131 yards and a TD but no INTs. Steelers lose a heartbreaker, 26-23.
Stud Of The Game: Mason Rudolph – 13/20, 131 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT
Result: PIT 23 – BAL 26
Cleveland Browns vs San Francisco 49ers
The Browns were on such a high after last week’s shock win over the Ravens and they were leading the division. Things were good then last night happened. It was reminiscent of Week 1. Baker Mayfield was awful. Only throwing for 100 yards, threw 2 more INTs which he leads the NFL in interceptions and 0 TDs. The Cleveland Defense was not good at all but more on that in Bark Of The Dawg. Jimmy Garoppolo was good for San Francisco, going 20/29, 181 yards, 2 TDs, and 0 INTs. The runningback tandem of Matt Breida and Tevin Coleman ran all over Cleveland, accumulating over 200 yards and 2 TDs on the ground. The 49er defense also 4 sacks. Cleveland got STEAM ROLLED, 31-3.
Stud Of The Game: Jimmy Garoppolo
Result: CLE 3 – SF 31
Baltimore Ravens 3-2
Cleveland Browns 2-3
Pittsburgh Steelers 1-4
Cincinnati Bengals 0-5
Baltimore is still at the top, but Lamar Jackson is constantly being shown as being just another QB.
Cincinnati needs to get themselves together or there will be an NFL Fire Sale at the end of the season.
Pittsburgh is hanging in there when they’re playing but they aren’t winning and that is a disaster.
Cleveland…the words I want to use isn’t suitable for children so if you want to know my thoughts, stay tuned for Bark Of The Dawg
Baltimore beats Cincinnati 40-3
Cleveland loses to Seattle 30-10
Pittsburgh loses to LA Chargers 28-14.
