Bark Of The Dawg: Browns vs Redskins Preseason Week 1

The anticipation has been so huge for the 2019 Cleveland Browns ever since The Browns made so many moves in the offseason including the trade for star Wide Receiver Odell Beckham Jr and building in the draft as well. The league has been completely abuzz. The Browns have gone from being a joke to a contender, from a failure to possible success. Only time will tell but John Dorsey has done an excellent job of crafting this team. Every Browns fan around the world is excited to see how far this team can go from their 7-8-1 record from last season but championships don’t come in one game. It’s a multi-month process and it starts in the preseason. It’s time to see who has what it takes to make the official team for the season. Weeding out the bad roots and carving out the diamonds in the rough.

Let’s get this Brown’s journey started right now by talking about Game 1 of the preseason with the Washington Redskins on this first installment of Bark Of The Dawg on AEE.

1st Quarter: 7-7 Tie

The first quarter was basically a feeling out process. OBJ and Landry didn’t play but Baker Mayfield was in the game and he started hot for his only possession of the first half. Mayfield and the offense showed up to play. They had to punt the ball after not being able to convert on 3rd down. The Redskins also went down after failing to convert. Then Mayfield and the Browns went 89 yards for a touchdown, 24 of those yards was from a Mayfield pass to Rashard Higgins to the endzone.

The Redskins tied it up at 7 on a Case Keenum TD to Robert Davis on a bad Browns defensive setup. The Browns then fumbled the ball on the next possession. Then the teams traded punts to end the 1st Quarter.

2nd Quarter: 17-7 Browns

The Redskins fumbled the ball to the Browns and then the Browns went through a 3 and Out with Drew Stanton under center. On the next possession rookie, Dwayne Haskins got picked off by the Browns’ rookie Mack Wilson and took it back to the house for the touchdown. 14-7 Browns. The Redskins get the ball back and do nothing with it. The Browns get the ball back and have to settle for a field goal. 17-7. Then Dwayne Haskins throws another interception to Cleveland’s staggering defense, this time to rookie Greedy Williams. Browns keep the ball until the end of the half.

3RD Quarter: 17-10 Browns

Redskins get the ball and go down the field for a field goal. 17-10. Browns then proceed to fumble the ball on their next possession. The teams then traded punts to end the quarter.

4th Quarter: 30-10 Browns

Redskins throw another interception once again to Mack Wilson giving him two in the game. Unfortunately, Cleveland couldn’t convert. They turned over the ball on 4th Down. Washington punted the ball on the next possession. Fourth string QB David Blough scored a touchdown for Cleveland as he threw a TD pass to D.J. Montgomery. 24-10 Browns. Then the feel-good story of the night…

Wide Receiver Damon Sheehy-Guiseppi, a walk-on to the Browns roster who petitioned the organization to give him a chance to prove himself. Even sleeping outside of the Browns headquarters just to prove he wanted this. And they gave him a shot and he proved himself in this game by returning an 86 yard punt for an electrifying touchdown and the proceeding extra point was missed. Browns win 30-10.

The Browns were great on all cylinders.

The Browns offense was solid and Mayfield, OBJ, Landry, and Chubb played less than 1 quarter combined.

The Browns defense shows even more promise especially from the rookies Williams and Wilson.

And as for Special Teams, the Browns may have found their kick returner in Damon Sheehy-Guiseppi.

Cleveland won in convincing fashion even when the 1st Team guys weren’t even playing.

Sure these games don’t matter but rest assured that this is a very good sign for the Browns.

The next preseason game is next Saturday, 9/17 as the Browns go to Indianapolis to face the Colts.

It is a 4 P.M. EST and you can count on All Everything Entertainment to cover all of the Browns games this season as I…
