Border TakeOver: WWE NXT TakeOver Toronto 2019 Preview

WWE NXT TakeOver Toronto 2019 Preview

It’s Time…

Once Again…

For Everybody…

To Come Aboard The…

NXT TakeOver Express.

Okay, that didn’t work as I thought it would but nevertheless, this Saturday Night is NXT TakeOver Toronto and we already know the deal. NXT TakeOvers NEVER disappoint. These are clearly the best shows that WWE produces. The Future of WWE always puts it all out there to entertain the fans.

This is the precursor to the WWE Summerslam 2019 PPV on Sunday. The appetizer to the main course but let’s be honest, it’s the main course and then dessert is after.

Disregard my hungry stomach. We have 5 big matches to discuss. Let’s break them down.

Candice LeRae vs Io Shirai

Io Shirai, one of the best female wrestlers in the world and the runner up in this past year’s Mae Young Classic was slowly making a name for herself. But then she got put down by Shayna Baszler multiple times and Io had to reevaluate. She had to change. She had no friends in NXT and she came to the sudden realization that she doesn’t need any friends. She made that clear by beating down NXT’s resident Girl Next Door, Candice LeRae. Candice was just trying to be Io’s friend to fend off the Four Horsewomen. But Io snapped and now with a new persona and wrestling gear, Io wants to make an example out of LeRae and honestly, I love this Heel persona. And it wouldn’t be beneficial to make Shirai lose here.

Prediction: Io Shirai

The Street Profits vs The Undisputed Era for the NXT Tag Team Championship

The Street Profits shocked the NXT Universe by winning the NXT Tag Team Championship at NXT TakeOver 25 in a four-way ladder match and ever since they’ve taken on all the teams in that very match. They took down The Forgotten Sons. They took down Oney Lorcan and Danny Birch. Now there’s only one team left. The former two-time NXT Tag Team Champions, The Undisputed Era. The UE has run the show in NXT and their leader Adam Cole has promised that all of The Undisputed Era will be dripping in championship gold before the end of 2019. Well, here’s the problem. With RAW Executive Director Paul Heyman reportedly being high on the Street Profits, I don’t think they’ll drop the titles just yet, but I do agree that The Undisputed Era will have those titles before the end of the year.

Prediction: The Street Profits

Shayna Baszler vs Mia Yim for the NXT Women’s Championship

The Queen of Spades has reigned supreme over the NXT Women’s Division for the better part of a year and while she has lost the title, she quickly regained it and now with Four Horsewomen cohorts Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir in NXT with her, there is no stopping Baszler. She’s taken down Shirai. She’s taken down Bel-Air. She’s taken down Cross. She’s taken down Sane. She’s taken down Dakota Kai. She’s taken down LeRae. She’s taken them all down…except for one. The Blasian Baddie, The HBIC Mia Yim. Ever since the fans wanted her signed by chanting “please sign Mia” at the Mae Young Classic and then actually being signed, she has more than capitalized on the opportunity. She’s been used well, and her story is captivating. That being said though, if Baszler is going to drop the title, it won’t be to Mia Yim at least not right now.

Prediction: Shayna Baszler

Velveteen Dream vs Roderick Strong vs Pete Dunne for the NXT North American Championship

Ever since taking the title off of Johnny Gargano, The Velveteen Dream has elevated the NXT North American Championship. Defending against the likes of Matt Riddle and Tyler Breeze, he has been impressive in every match. Now he has to defend against two men. One is Roderick Strong, The Messiah of The Backbreaker and 4th member of The Undisputed Era, trying to fulfill Adam Cole’s prophecy of The UE dripping in championship gold by the end of 2019. The other is The Bruiserweight and former WWE United Kingdom Champion Pete Dunne. Dunne helped NXT UK get off the ground and now he’s back in NXT to make a name for himself again. Whether this is a permanent move, who knows but it’s exciting to see Dunne back in NXT. The question is who wins this match? These are three excellent talents. I love them all, but I think Velveteen Dream pulls out the win.

Prediction: Velveteen Dream

Adam Cole vs Johnny Gargano III – 2 out of 3 Falls for the NXT Championship

Round One, NXT TakeOver New York. The first 2 out of 3 Falls match between these two. It was an absolute masterclass of a match. The constant back and forth, intensity and competitiveness was abundant. Cole won the first fall, Gargano won the second fall and even though he tried everything, Cole could not win the third fall and Gargano became the NEW NXT Champion.

Round Two, NXT TakeOver 25. One on One. No Undisputed Era. Just man to man. This was just another example of the story these two can tell with one another. Neither man wanted to back down. Neither man wanted to lose but one did. Adam Cole beat Johnny Gargano for the NXT Championship and became the second man in history to become an NXT Triple Crown Winner.

Who was the first man to accomplish that feat though? Johnny Gargano. So we have the only two NXT Triple Crown Winners In history, two of the best talents in the world will conclude their epic story this time in a stipulation riddled 2 Out of 3 Falls Match. Both Cole and Gargano were allowed to pick a stipulation.

Gargano chose a Street Fight. Cole wanted to play mind games and chose a straight-up wrestling match. The third fall will be determined on the spot by NXT general manager William Regal IF a third fall is needed.

Don’t get me wrong…I love both of these guys and I want them both to be NXT Champion, but Adam Cole is too hot right now and I do believe he will hold that NXT Championship for a long time.

Prediction: Adam Cole

It is the best two hours of programming on the WWE Network and we will be in for another treat as the black and yellow brand takes over The Great White North Saturday night.
