Wow this game took a turn for the worse, for the Chiefs, faster than it did last night for the Baltimore Ravens.
The Houston Texans came out and within the first 15 minutes, had the Kansas City Chiefs on the mat. Houston won the coin toss, elected to receive and proceeded to start the dismantling of the Chiefs defense. In what was a brilliant play, the Texans faked a screen and hit Kenny Stills for a 54-yard touchdown.
The Chiefs proceeded to go 3 and out, due to a bad drop by Travis Kelce and then had their punt blocked by Barkevious Mingo. The ball was picked up by Lonnie Johnson and returned for a touchdown. It was 14 to 0 with about 10 minutes left in the first quarter.
A few drives later, the Chiefs defense was able to stop Deshaun Watson but a muffed punt by Tyreek Hill gave Houston the ball around the 5-yard line.
Only two plays later and Deshaun Watson found his tight end, Daniel Fells for a 5-yard touchdown.
At the end of the first quarter, the Texans were sitting pretty with a 21-0 lead and they had all of the momentum. Nobody expected the Texans to come into Arrowhead and put the Chiefs down like they had been.
The Chiefs were up 24-0 when the tide really turned for the Chiefs. Bill O’Brien had a chance to really put the game out of reach but played it safe. He chose to kick a field goal on 4th and 1 at the Chiefs 10 yard line. The Texans had the momentum and Bill O’Brien played it too safe. On the ensuing kickoff, Mecole Hardman took the ball into Texans territory and the comeback was on.
From this point on, it was all Chiefs in the 2nd quarter. Patrick Mahomes hit running back Damien Williams for a 17-yard touchdown pass to really spark the comeback. Williams ran a wheel route and Mahomes hit him in stride. It was a beautiful pass.
The Texans had a hard time igniting anything on the next drive. Bill O’Brien made the boneheaded move, possibly overcompensating for the field goal, where he tried a fake punt near his own 30-yard line. It didn’t go well and the Chiefs got the ball back in Texan Territory inside the 35-yard line.
Less than 30 seconds later, the Chiefs scored another touchdown with Patrick Mahomes hitting Travis Kelce for a 5-yard touchdown score. Kelce really started to pick up steam this drive and he is becoming unstoppable this quarter.
The game just keeps giving us entertaining football. On the ensuing kickoff, Deandre Carter, tried to return the kickoff out of the endzone but was hit by Daniel Sorenson and fumbled straight into the arms of Darwin Thompson who took the ball down to the Houston 6 yard line.
And just 3 plays later, the Chiefs got their 3rd touchdown of the quarter. Travis Kelce again was the recipient of the 6-yard completion from Mahomes. This game is getting out of control.
This has been one of the most entertaining games of the season. The Texans jumped out to a 24 point lead but here is the Chiefs storming back with 3 touchdowns.
The Chiefs got the ball back again and something that happened that nobody expected. The Chiefs officially took the lead on a Patrick Mahomes 5-yard score to Travis Kelce. Mahomes has thrown for 4 touchdown and Kelce has 3 of them.
