Damian Lillard exploded for 61 points, 8 assists, and 5 rebounds on a 17/32 night from the field, making all 18 of his free throw attempts as well as 9/17 from three point range in a Portland Trail Blazers in a 134-131 win over the Dallas Mavericks Tuesday night. The Trail Blazers victory puts them in the 8th seed in the Western Conference. A play in at this point is a guarantee and it is just a matter of what two teams are playing in the play in.
After scoring 61 points on Tuesday night, Damian Lillard joins exclusive and Hall of Fame company in Wilt Chamberlain as the only players to have three 60 point games in a single season. Also, Lillard moved into a tie with the great Allen Iverson for 8th all time with eleven 50 point games in regular season history. Damian Lillard is perhaps one of the most overlooked stars of this generation largely due to his being on a small market team. It is nice to see him get the national spotlight offered to him with a surplus of Nationally televised games.
The Phoenix Suns, Memphis Grizzlies, and San Antonio Spurs all sit at 0.5 games back from the Blazers in the standings as of this writing. The Pelicans and the Kings were both eliminated after the Blazers defeated the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday night.
