Extreme Rules 2019 Reaction- The Beast is Back
Guys this weekend was a great weekend for wrestling fans as we had events held by the Indies, AEW, NJPW and the WWE. However, the WWE reigned supreme on this weekend with the Extreme Rules PPV. We’ve asked for more edgier content and that’s exactly what we got!!
Pre-Show WWE Intercontinental Title Match: Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Finn Balor
I heard a lot of rumors leading into the event that this match could happen. I’m not going to lie, I was a little disappointed it was on the pre-show. But in the same regard very pleased that it happend. The WWE gave us the feeling that Shinsuke was in for a push after he defeated Balor on Tuesday night but I honestly did not expect to see it happen so soon. Unexpected is always good for the viewers. Fun fact Finn Balor has never defeated Nakamura in singles competition in the WWE. Winner and new WWE Intercontinental Champion: Shinsuke Nakamura
WWE Cruiserweight Title Match: Tony Nese vs. Drew Gulak
Now if anyone watched that disaster of an Evolve 10th anniversary Show, you know exactly why Gulak won. They had their 205 Live champ count the lights for Matt Riddle on Saturday night. Personally, I’m not a big fan of having champions featured on cards, doing favors, as it takes away from the champion! We had an NXT guy go over a main roster (205 live) champion, so Gulak needed this one. Winner and still WWE Cruiserweight Champion: Drew Gulak
No Holds Barred Match: The Undertaker and Roman Reigns vs. Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre
Well, I thought this match would have definitely gone on last but considering everything that happened tonight, we know why it didn’t. Taker looked great tonight; if he wanted to get that awful Goldberg taste out of his mouth this match did it considering there were 2 really good workers in the ring with him (McIntyre and Reigns.) I think that really enhanced the quality of this match. The Elias spot was excellent and timed out very well. For all of us thinking this match would be low quality and bad it was the furthest thing from. Winners: Roman Reigns and The Undertaker
RAW Tag Team Titles Match: The Usos vs. The Revival
Probably a tough spot to be in considering the placement of this one. This match featured two teams who I think could have put on a 5 Star match. Unfortunately, that did not happen here. Now while they aren’t in the dog house anymore, the trend with the NXT tag teams that are getting called up continues where the crowd is just uninterested in what they are trying to get accomplished. But at least the Revival has gotten a little push, the shatter machine to end it was good. Winners and Still RAW Tag Team Champions: The Revival
Cesaro vs. Aleister Black
The guys and I were going crazy in our group chat for this match. Black had a strong showing for someone who hadn’t competed on PPV since Mania and I think we can thank Cesaro for a lot of that. I hope these guys work a series of matches because this match last night was a great match and a great showing by both competitors. Winner: Aleister Black
2-on-1 Handicap Match for the SmackDown Women’s Title: Nikki Cross and Alexa Bliss vs. Bayley
Well for all of you thinking Alexa was going to show her “true colors” last night and turn on Nikki shame on you. I will admit it was hard for me to get invested in this match. But this match served its purpose and had some good spots and some character development which is always a good thing.
Unfortunately, my spoiler did not happen tonight. We did not get a Sasha Banks return but seeing how this match went down I can’t say I’m that disappointed. Winner and still Smackdown Women’s Champion: Bayley
Last Man Standing Match: Braun Strowman vs. Bobby Lashley
ECW ECW ECW! This match right here had Paul E written all over it. Both of these guys had a hell of a match fighting through the crowd, chair shots, Braun slamming Lashley against the merch wall and then the concrete bump!! This had all the making of some attitude era “HARDCORE” match that the fans were really invested a great spot to end it. Winner: Braun Strowman
Triple Threat for the SmackDown Tag Teams Titles: Heavy Machinery vs. The New Day vs. Daniel Bryan and Rowan Here I thought the crowd would start losing interest because of the last match but these six guys find a way to keep it very entertaining. Otis going for the suicide dive to realize he couldn’t do that and jumping off the apron spot instead had me dead, then when Tucker jumped from the top rope, I was just thinking to myself that big men shouldn’t be doing this but it was awesome to see. I hate to admit that because I’m not a huge fan of Heavy Machinery. Through all the chaos a window open after some great back and forth exchanging with Big E and Daniel Bryan and after the midnight hour was hit it was all but over. Winners and New Smackdown Tag Team Champions: The New Day
WWE United States Title Match: AJ Styles vs. Ricochet
For everyone who was with us Friday night and saw my predictions for the show, I mentioned how the Club needed a signature win to reestablish themselves. That’s exactly what we got here, but for both guys, this was an amazing match I’m thinking we’ll get this match again at Summerslam with a stipulation in place. Winner and New WWE United States Champion: AJ Styles
Dolph Ziggler vs. Kevin Owens
Well, this was one way of putting Owens over and keeping up his momentum a quick squash on Ziggler. Winner: Kevin Owens
WWE Title Match: Samoa Joe vs. Kofi Kingston
This was the worst match on the card but I didn’t have high expectations for this one anyways, we’re stuck with Kofi for at least another month. Winner and Still WWE Champion: Kofi Kingston
Winners Take All Extreme Rules Match: Baron Corbin and Lacey Evans vs. Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch
Where do we begin here, let’s start with Lacy Evans attire tonight this was definitely a lot edgier then what we’ve seen in the past. She had Seth’s name on her ass and they zoomed in on this really sexualizing the product. Something that I don’t recall seeing since they did away with the bra and panties matches. This was refreshing for the older fans to see content-wise and no guy is going to tell me they didn’t enjoy that close up on Lacy’s rear end.
Then we had the man and the man’s man dressed in identical outfits and this match you would have thought would be low in quality for all of you that say Lacy can’t wrestle *cough cough* (screw you) this was actually a clinic!!! Kendo stick spots, chair spots, the table bumps had the crowd chanting ECW which gave us fans hope for the future, but the woman on man and the man on woman brutality was just perfect here. This really had an attitude era feeling to and if it takes the competition from AEW for us to get this then God bless the competition. The story was perfectly told beforehand. Seth and Becky’s relationship was a liability, Seth snapped and beat the hell out of Corbin with 3 curb stomps and this one was over. Winners: Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch
Furthermore, Seth’s emotions got him exposed, in the midst of the brutal beating he delivered he also took one as well and Seth was too emotionally involved which made him vulnerable for……………… Wait a minute……………… This man.
WWE Universal Title Match: Brock Lesnar vs. Seth Rollins
Does anyone remember Seth’s heist of the Century a few years ago? Oh, wait that’s right how could we forget, Brock lost his title without being pinned bummer right? How about the Battleground PPV before Summerslam in Brock’s rematch where he beat the living dog S*%T out of Seth just for Taker to bail him out. Justice was well served tonight when the beast came out to play, after a trip to suplex city, and an F5 all of a sudden, The man had bigger balls then the man’s man. And all is right with the world again. Winner and New WWE Universal Champion: Brock Lesnar
We raved about this PPV all night last night in our group chat and while some members may not have been completely satisfied with how it ended I definitely enjoyed this show. By far the show of the year and everyone is definitely going to want to tune in for Raw tonight.
