Roman Reigns & The Usos vs. King Corbin, Dolph Ziggler, & Robert Roode
The going home edition of Friday Night Smackdown would kick off the way I like it, with a match. Jimmy and Jay would take the fight to Ziggler and Roode until Jimmy landed wrong on the curtain after a common top rope spot. Ziggler would then dive in and drive the back of Jimmy’s head into the ring post. The medical team would come out and help Jimmy to the back.
After not one, but two commercial breaks only minutes apart, Corbin and his cronies would dominate the match, keeping Reigns and Jay separated until Jimmy Uso returned to even the odds. Chaos would erupt and Reigns and Corbin would battle it out of the ring and into the WWE Universe. Jimmy would pick up the win with a big splash from the top rope on Robert Roode.
Michael Cole would interview Lacey Evans at the top of the ramp, discussing with Evans her upbringing, the reason why she joined the Marines, what type of leader she would be if she becomes champion, and that one time when her daughter took swipes at Sasha Banks. Bayley would then jump Lacey before getting pulled back by referees.
Kayla Braxton would interview Carmella and Dana Brooke about the Women’s Royal Rumble before Lacey and Bayley would interrupt with the two battling it out.
Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross would be scheduled to face off against Mandy Rose and Sonya DeVille for a match, but as soon as the bell rang, Bayley and Lacey Evans would make their way to the ring, and all six women would start battling it out and the referee’s would call the match.
Braun Strowman & Elias vs. Cesaro & Shinsuke Nakamura w/Sami Zayn
Elias would come out and sing a song a out the Royal Rumble and how it would end with him winning. He would then call out Braun to help him sing and before Braun would get one note out, Cesar and Nakamura would interrupt for their match.
Before the commercial break, Elias would control the match, but after Nakamura and Zayn interfered, we return from commercial break with Nakamura and Cesaro in control of the match. After a hot tag to Braun, he’d run a clinic on both wrestlers, and deliver the Running Powerslam on Cesaro. He’d tag in Elias who deliver the Flying Elbow for the win.
Sheamus would cut a promo on Shorty G about their match at Royal Rumble.
Kofi Kingston w/Big-E vs. John Morrison w/The Miz
Before the match, The Miz would cut a pre-match promo and plug his realty show, as well as announce his and Morrison’s entry into the Royal Rumble.
The two would have a unique match with their distinctive offensive moves, but after Morrison tried to get the pin by using the ropes as leverage, Big-E would shove them off and the Miz would jump Big-E with no affect. Big-e would then chase the Miz around the ring and Kingston would land the Trouble In Paradise. Morrison would pick up the win with a shot to the back of the neck and then landed the Starship Pain for the win.
Daniel Bryan would make his way down to the ring. Bray Wyatt would pop up on the titantron, trying to fax Daniel the contract signing. The two would bicker back and forth, like every contract sigining, but instead of Bray Wyatt siging the contract, it would be The Fiend who would show up, attack Daniel with the strap, and then signed the contract in his own blood to the audience chanting “you’ve got issues.”
I am becoming more and more aware of my interest growing more for Smackdown and less for RAW, and I have a feeling it may be because of Smackdown’s two-hour showing. Everything has a place;there isn’t any fillers, there weren’t any squash matches, which was amazing, and like the handful of episodes before it, this one had a solid flow.
The only thing I have to complain about this episode was the lack of any women’s matches. All we had was a quick fight between six women and that was it. Lacey Evans is facing off against Bayley in less than 48 hours and instead of a match, they just had the two duke it out.
