Gentlemen Start Your Engines- Racing Season Starts with The Daytona 500 on Sunday

February 18th, 2001 forever changed the World of Nascar as we know it. Dale Earnhardt Jr. was an up and coming star in Nascar at the time was fighting neck and neck with Michael Waltrip.

His father Dale Earnhardt Sr. was also competing in the race trying to do everything in his power to win the biggest race of the year. Then sadly tragedy struck. Dale Earnhardt Sr. was involved in a crash on the last lap that ultimately took his life.

This was a tough day for all fans of the sport but like most I kept my Nascar faith. I would go on to follow Dale Jr. throughout his career all the way until his last lap before retirement.

Now the sport has forever changed. The days of the Earnhardts, Tony Stewart, and Jeff Gordon are in the rear view mirror. The guys I grew up watching and idolizing gone.

However, the sport was left in great hands. The parity has never been higher and we have some familiar and some young faces that we can get excited about and get behind. Kevin Harvick, Joey Logan, Martin Truex Jr, Kurt and Kyle Busch, and last years Daytona 500 winner Denny Hamlin, just to name a few.

This Sunday, February 16th, a new season begins and it starts with the Daytona 500. Such an exciting race and a great time of the year if you’re a racing fan like myself.

The Daytona 500 is the Superbowl of Motorsports.

For you racing fans enjoy the start of the season and the big race!

Joey Logano is currently the favorite to win the race at 10-1. Followed by Brad Keselowski at 11-1 and a whole slew of guys including Denny Hamlin, Kevin Harvick, and Kyle Busch at 13-1.
