Hail to the Chief-Kansas City Reaches Super Bowl for the First Time in 50 Years

Hail to the Chief

It has been 50 years since the Kansas City Chiefs have won the AFC Championship. On January 19, 2020, the Chiefs prevailed and beat the bruising Tennessee Titans. This was a game that many thought could go either way. Tennessee had previously knocked off the Ravens and Patriots prior to that and have an actual monster at running back with Derrick Henry. While the Chiefs have arguably one of the best offenses in football.

We saw who the superior team was in that game. Patrick Mahomes lit things up all game. Mahomes also had a 30-yard touchdown scramble that could easily make a case for run of the year. In the air, Mahomes had 3 touchdowns and 300 yards, while completing some great throws in the process.

Defensively the Chiefs talked the talk and walked the walk. Defensive end Frank Clark had pulled an Earl Thomas earlier in the week calling out Derrick Henry and emphasizing that Henry wasn’t hard to tackle. All in all that turned out to be true. Up until garbage time the Chiefs held Henry to 70 yards and a touchdown. Compared to the numbers Henry had been putting up this was a huge win for the Chiefs defense.

Tyrann Mathieu was all over the field making plays in the secondary while Chris Jones’ impact was felt.

Coming off such a strong team win I think The Chiefs should be the favorite to win the Lombardi Trophy. Patrick Mahomes is just too good to be stopped. The Chiefs defense should be able to keep the 49ers running game in check as they did Derrick Henry. This will lead to the Chiefs hoisting the Lombardi and Andy Reid getting his first Superbowl victory.
