Joe Maddon was recently relieved of his duties as manager of the Chicago Cubs at the end of the 2019 baseball season.
Which begs the question Why??
Some believe the parting of ways was mutual, some believe that’s just what they’re saying to the fan base. Some people believe he was more focused on his portfolio and building his brand with restaurants and commercials. While others feel he wasn’t the right fit for the new crop of players that Chicago Cubs President Theo Epstein and General Manager Jed Hoyer planned on bringing in for the 2020 campaign. Some believe he just isn’t the right fit for Chicago anymore. I disagree.
I believe one Joseph John Maddon Jr. DOES deserve another year as a manager in the city of Chicago. Just not in the way you might be thinking.
In his untimely departure, Maddon has drawn comparisons to another Cubs manager that has had his own fair share of success on da North Side. Johnnie B. Baker Jr. Otherwise known as Dusty. He puts people in a position to succeed and takes credit, but it’s not his fault when there’s a failure and the players don’t perform.
Maddon went from petting farms and pajama parties to now only being about restaurants & commercials. Actions speak louder than words.
Maddon doesn’t have fun anymore with the Cubs and doesn’t spark joy in the Cubs locker room anymore.
Time to blow it up an prepare for another World Series run in 4-5 years.
Maddon would serve the city of Chicago better by going to da South Side and helping the upcoming White Sox take that leap to the next level.
There’s no clear dominant team in the AL Central like an “ASTROS” in the West or “YANKEES” in the East.
The White Sox are poised to make the playoffs and compete for a World Series Title by 2023.
Maddon going to the South Side would allow him to stay in the city and not have to deal with the hassle of moving and selling his home in Chicago or buying a new one on the west coast while still allowing himself to make extra moolah filming his Emmy-worthy Binny’s commercials.
With Maddon switching to the South Side of Chicago, this would allow Renteria to come back to the North Side with David Ross (I can see it now- “RICKY’S RESTAURANT & TAQUERIA” serving up $16 burgers with fattier, juicer meat and softer buns along with $23 margaritas as smooth and eclectic as his coaching style. And a ROSSI WINE BAR specializing in well-balanced reds & bright, acidic, buttery whites along with a massive snake pit in the back for the kids.) as his assistant, grooming Ross to replace him at da cusp of excellence and take away well-deserved credit from Renteria as Maddon did to him 5 years ago.
So as Cubs fans move forward into this next chapter of their historical franchise, I am confident of three things after this recent move by Cubs management:
- Maddon and the Cubs will find more success apart then they will together.
- Around 1950, Men really loved naming their sons after them.
- Joe Maddon and Theo Epstein will surely meet again.
OH YES, my friends…….they WILL meet again.
2024 World Series
Chicago Cubs vs. Chicago White Sox
Ross vs. Maddon
Good Luck Joe.
