Oh what a life it would be, to be JV. Justin Verlander who at the ripe age of 36 just threw his 3rd career no-hitter. Verlander is once again on track for the AL Cy Young award, barring Astros teammate Garrett Cole doesn’t vulture it from him. Verlander’s latest no-no, on September 1st was just 1 walk away from a perfect game.
Where does this 3rd no hitter fit in JV’s career of amazing accomplishments? That trophy case is pretty full with an MVP, Cy Young Award (he has also finished 2nd in the Cy Young voting three times), ERA Title, Pitching Triple Crown, Major League Player of the Year, ALCS MVP, 2017 World Series Champion and 18 All-Star appearances. This season he has added 257 k’s on his way to the 3,000 K Club, currently sitting at 2,963.
Yes he could retire tomorrow and be in The Hall Of Fame. His career is far from over, and there are no signs of slowing up, leading the league in strikeouts last season is just another example of that. I guess since I am pointing out what it would be like to be JV I should mention that he just had his first child last November with his Sports Illustrated 3 time Swimsuit Cover Model, wife the 27 year old absolutely stunning Kate Upton (probably the most prolific baseball couple since Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe) .
The man deserves applause for that alone! Oh what a life it would be, to be JV.
The next addition to that trophy case for JV has to be bringing the World Series Trophy back to Houston in 2019. Which, at the moment is looking very promising.
