NCAA Hoops State Farm Champions Classic Preview

It’s November and that can mean a lot of things but today it means the start of College Basketball. Tonight marks the ninth time that we get a monster doubleheader to start the season at Madison Square Garden. This series has been nothing but even to say the least.

Tonight Kansas ranked third overall takes on number 4 Duke. After that, we get preseason number 1 Michigan St. taking on the 2nd ranked Wildcats of Kentucky. Four powerhouses on display opening night of the season. There will be plenty of talent on display tonight. New talent, young talent, and kids we haven’t seen play before. Every year these four schools lose great talent to the pros and every year they replenish their rosters with great incoming freshmen. This year is no different.

Kansas Jayhawks vs Duke Blue Devils

On one side you have coach Bill Self and on the is Mike Krzyzewski. Two Hall of Fame coaches matching up once again. Kansas and Duke both failed to make the final four last season. Kansas lost in the sweet sixteen and Duke in the elite eight to the Spartans. Kansas’ roster features point guard Devon Dotson and center Udoka Azubuike. For Duke Tre Jones and freshman center Vernon Carey Jr. lead the way. Duke may not be as flashy as they were last year with Zion, Cam, and RJ in town but this team should have another Duke like season. The Blue Devils win tonight at MSG.

Michigan State Spartans vs Kentucky Wildcats

The second game of the evening features two more Hall of Fame coaches as Tom Izzo and John Calipari meet across the court from one another. Spartans are led by guards Jordan Langford and Cassius Winston. Winston is on the preseason Wooden player of the year watchlist after winning the Big Ten player of the year award last season.

The Wildcats feature a roster that returns seven players including veteran guards Ashton Hagans and Immanuel Quickley. Nick Richards and sophomore EJ Montgomery will be vital to the Wildcats success. Freshmen Tyrese Maxey, Kahlil Whitney, and Keion Brooks highlight another top recruiting class for Coach Calipari. All three are versatile players that will have to contribute for this team to be successful. Johnny Juzang will see bulk minutes as well. Both teams should see great seasons. As for tonight, I like the Spartans. Cassius Winston is going to lead the way to a Sparty victory.

There is a lot to look forward to tonight at The State Farm Champions Classic Live from Madison Square Garden in New York, New York.
