NFL Cutdown Day – Potential Difference Makers

RB LeSean McCoy

Don’t get me wrong, Shady had a down year last season posting numbers that were career lows. But given the chance in the right situation, McCoy could be a valuable asset for a team looking to make a run at the playoffs. Paying McCoy $6.175 million in base salary didn’t make sense since he was out-played by Frank Gore and the stable of younger backs.

POTENTIAL FITS- Chiefs/ Raiders/ Chargers

LB Jachai Polite

While Polite might not make an impact this season, he is still a talented young player. Polite was widely considered to have 1st round talent but was selected in the 3rd round, 68th overall, in this year’s draft. While he logged just five tackles in the preseason, it’s still really early to cut a player you spent a 2nd day pick on.

POTENTIAL FITS- Any team willing to part with a roster spot.

RB Samaje Perine

Perine is an absolute monster in the weight room. Perine had issues with ball security but if fixed, and it’s possible, he could be a steal for any team. There ended up being a lack of room in the Redskins RB room that currently has Derrius Guice, Adrian Peterson and Chris Thompson.

POTENTIAL FITS- Texans/ Panthers/ Chiefs

OG Joshua Garnett

Garnett was a former 1st round draft pick of the 49ers from 2016. Garnett started 11 games as a rookie and did not make another start during his time with the 49ers. He has struggled with injuries and poor play. If given an opportunity on another team, and stay healthy, maybe he could recapture the form that led to his 1st round draft pick status.

POTENTIAL FITS- Cardinals/ Dolphins/ Bills

LB Brandon Marshall

One of the more surprising cuts of the day. The 29-year-old signed a one-year, $4.1-million contract with Oakland in March and was expected to start at middle linebacker. Marshall was injured last season and if he can show that he is healthy, can absolutely add a 2 down LB presence in the middle of the field.

POTENTIAL FITS- Eagles/ Jets/ Rams

WR Josh Doctson/ WR Laquon Treadwell

I decided to group both of these guys together for multiple reasons. They have been linked since the 2016 draft because they were both selected in the first round, back to back picks no less. Both had the talent to be drafted high but have been labeled as busts so far. I don’t see a scenario when both guys do not get picked up due to their tremendous upside.

POTENTIAL FITS- Seahawks/ Bengals/ Ravens
